Anybody catch the Jump Rope championships today on ESPN. Yes they are televising that crap and wont put on roller hockey. Hopefully the Olympics will give us a little respect.

You'll say that, but I'll bet that those get better ratings than the NHL. I know the Outdoor Games does.

Yes, I had this conversation with someone about a year ago after I saw jump rope on there.
Jump rope and spelling bee championships are about as visually, athletically exciting as counting the dents in the wall while sitting on the john.
They only air the spelling bee because it's a loophole that gets them around their "educational" program requirement that the FCC has.

I guess them televising scrabble is for the same purpose!!!!!
You're correct!

So, hmmm... let's somehow make roller hockey "educational" and we're there!!!
we can install new scoreboards that list the scores by period but not the totals....with a line across the bottom....then the winner of an end of game prize drawing has to answer what the correct total score should be in order to collect their prize.....a TV audience can also compete via emails....with the first correct answer recieving tickets for the next game...."let no child be left behind"....
And we could have them figure out average shots per period, save percentages, average PIMS, the list goes on and on!! Get a radar gun in there and they could do all sorts of stuff with speed/distance/energy...
Wow!!! We might be on to something!!! Spelling Bees and Jump Ropers Beware!!!
...."It takes a village..."
how bout on penalty shots...the shooter has to spell a word, and the goalies have to jump rope??? then they could not show the spelling bees OR the jump roping!

Get this: About a week ago, the Scrabble World Championship was on ESPN. Is that a sport?? I don't think so. It's a board game, darned it! Why won't they put on roller hockey and college ice hockey instead? Besides, there's a lockout. I can't live without watching hockey any longer. Who agrees??
btw, just a shout in from the blue, but, Scott McDougall, former goalie for the former MLRH AAA Warriors is a scrabble professional. Yes, that means he has earned money playing scrabble. He took 1st Nationally for division 5 two years ago.
And I must add that this is a really amazing thing if you know Scott(still luv ya Scottie!)
And, so you don't have to ask: yes, I'm alive, No, we are not, and No, I'm not. But if I/we was/were, it would be XIHL.

Holy cow. How much did he win?
My recollection is fuzzy on that as frankly I was amazed that he could even spell scrabble much less know that the english language has 13 words that use a "q" without a following "u". Again, this isn't a knock on Scott. If you know him, you know what I mean. For those that don't know him, he was the "potty mouth" with the Mass accent we had. Wait, the goalie, not the coach
As to how much $$: I think it was in the ballpark of $2500. I know it was enough to justify his expenses for the 5-7 days out west.
This year he didn't finish as high in New Orleans, but he still did quite well.
