Eligibility

Question,
I was reading that the MCRHL Selects won USARS in the college division this year and read that Mike Mackert is eligible to play next season. Mike has been at MSU longer than I have been alive! I played against him for four years and thought that someone only got 5 years eligibility. Did the rules change and if so, what are the new rules?

I am just curious because I might be taking some classes at a University in the Spring and my five years was up, but would definitely love to continue to college game.

Mack, nothing against you bud, just wanting to learn!

Re: Eligibility

Hey Kurt. The eligibility rule will not be in effect for the 2004-2005 season. The NCRHA Board of Directors is examining it closer, as the 5-year rule did not take into account graduate students and other situations. We are looking to make Eligibility Requirements (credit hours) more strict, such as 9 units for DI/DII and 6 for DIII (for the 2005-2006 season), in order to combat students playing college hockey into their forties!!!

PS I heard the rule was still in effect if you went to Purdue, just cuz!!! (FYI I played for Cal Poly SLO back from 95-00 so I remember you guys from Nationals in Florida and otherwise).

Kurt,

Ditto what Brennan said. You can also see something here about it that was announced previously in the ECRHA: http://ecrha.net/newsroom.php?&article_id=50163 (about 3/4 of the way down, under "Rules and Eligibility".
