RHI Reunion Idea

    Hi Folks,

This past Saturday, I met with Dennis Murphy of Roller Hockey International fame. We got to talking and came up with an idea for an RHI 10-year-anniversary reunion dinner next year. (The league's first full season was 1995.)

It would be open to everyone involved in RHI, from its founders and administrators, general managers, coaches, players... to fans. Dennis thought it might be a good idea to post the topic here, and see if there was much popular support for the idea.

Feel free to post here on the message board. Thanks for your insights and suggestions, even if you think it's a bad idea!

I thought 1993 was the first season when the Anaheim Bullfrogs won? I also think the league actually played in 1992. I don't know what Dennis means by "first full season", but in 1994, the Stampede won and that surely seemed like a "full" season to me, if not 1992 or 1993.

Hockeydb lists a 14 game season for about 15 teams in 1992.

I think that a reunion is a great idea.

I did a report for a college business class a couple years back on the RHI. From what I remember RHI in 1992 was kind of a "test-run." They were testing the marketing to see if they could do a full fledged season. I thought 1993 and 1994 were full season. I do know in 1995, they did have their largest amount of teams.

    Re: RHI 10-Year Reunion Idea

Actually, to get all the facts straight (I'm such a geek, I know), 1993 was the first season (all taking place over the summer) and had 12 teams....It doubled in 1994 with 24 teams, 1995 had 19, '96 18, '97 10 and '99 was 8.....they did do exhibitions in Canada, US, Japan and in Europe from 1992 - 1996 to promote the sport worldwide...

Anaheim Bullfrogs won in '93, Buffalo Stampede and Benny won in '94, the San Jose Rhinos got it in '95, '96 was the Orlando Jackals, in '97 the Bullfrogs got their 2nd title and in '99 the St Louis Vipers took it home

As far as the reunion goes - I'm IN!! - If its in California or maybe Vegas I'm in TWICE....might be a good time to Induct some folks officially for the first time into the Roller Hockey Hall of Fame (should have it open by then) also might be a good time for IHC to do some awards again!!

Keep us posted on this one!!

    Re: RHI 10-Year Reunion Idea

I was there only long enough to see number of games played before I clicked away. Just got lazy and didn't go back to count number of teams. Nice to see Benny's name mentioned so the newbies will know how long he's been associated with the game and at what level.

1993 was the first season for RHI. Some exhibition games were played in 1992.

Hockey DB lists seasons as 92/93 for 1993 since an ice hockey season spans two calendar years.

See http://rhistats.tripod.com/ for details from each season.

I don't know why they list them like ice seasons because the games were played in the same year. Most of the players would have been playing ice from Oct-March.

My guess is that is how his database is set up since most of the data is for ice hockey.
