Thread: Inline Hockey at the X-Games?

    Inline Hockey at the X-Games?

I am suprised with all of the talk about leagues that this idea hasn't been floated yet. Would it be possible to come up with a mini-tournament to propose to the X-Games as an event? It could give inline the kind of exposure it doesn't currently get and who knows what possibilities after that?

I would pose this question to the guys who are putting this new 'superleague' together. It could make for a great pre-season showcase.

for some reason....i do think that would be a good idea to get the name of roller hockey out there....but for the xgames...i think they would need to alter the game way too much to consider it worthy of xgames and it would most likely loose its hockey sense

To make it for the XGames, the ramps would need to be put in behind the nets, bars instead of blue lines and a bubble over the top of it. Actually, that bubble thing may actually be kind of fun.

rumor has it that there is talk about trying to get some kind of XIHL tournament into the X-games for next summer... would be a cool idea, but is it really that extreme of a sport?? maybe that's where pro beach could have been marketed, it will be fun as long as they leave the game the way it is.. full contact, in a regulation rink, regular nets, boards etc.

maybe next we can put street hockey in the great outdoors games on espn...

i think its great that efforts are being made to get the sport out there and televised.. and this is only a rumor about the x games, but why not start kind of like marple did last year?? although the games were not aired live, every state / city has local area networks, start there and build up

Don't knock street/dec hockey. The world championships are being held in Pittsburg next year. Last year they were held in Switzerland. Two years prior to that it was held in Prague.

I agree with you 100%, PBH would have fit perfect for the X games. I highly doubt we'll ever see our current game at the X games. To me there is nothing extreme about what we do, does is take talent..yes but extreme..no. I think there would have to be a great change to our normal tournament or league play to be worthy of the X games. Lets be honest here, we're talking about guys and girls doing some redic. stuff on skates, boards or bikes. We're just playing hockey. No flips, no stunts, no big air...just hockey.

Actually no. In my home town, Leominster, Ma., they hold the U.S. Nationals in May and the CanAm's in November. Producing about 100 teams from age 6 to 60. Both tournaments have been played every year for the last 29 years. The house league for kids, from the little ones, my son included, he's 4, up to teens, has about 90 or so teams. Again, the World Championships will be held in Pittsburg next year. I think in Switzerland there were maybe 15 countries represented.
