    Is it too late?

    All,

I guess I should talk a little about myself. Im 25 and been thinking of playing hockey recreationally of course. I've always liked hockey but never "got into it". I mostly watched basketball thinking that was my sport that was until I started looking into hockey (rules, etc). It has literally turned me into a sports fanatic. Although I enjoy playing basketball suddenly watching seems so boring and well, pointless.
So Im crazy over hockey and of course now I want to play. Is it too late? Am I too old? I can inline okay but have never played hockey. I would also like to play hockey on ice. How should I start? Where can I go for pick up games? I live in FL right now but i might be moving to WA, Seattle.

    Thanks

It's NEVER too late to start anything in life! I started playing when I was 30! I play in 2 adult ice hockey leagues and just left the adult roller league cause the rink owner is a real jerk, and i'd rather see him go out of business than give him my money. Just contact your local ice rink and ask about signing up for the adult league!

It's only too late if your body says it's too late... ie knees! I too started relatively late.. 21 or so. I'm 30 now and play on 4 inline teams and 1 ice team in the summer. What part of WA are you moving to? I was up north of Seattle for a while and I know they have inline leagues up in Bellingham. If you can inline skate already, you'll have no problem. I think people skate a lot better with a stick in their hands and a puck to concentrate on instead of their feet.

Awesome...I found an inline rink near and Im heading out there today to practice.

I have these pair of inline skates made by Rollerblade but I would like to replace those with hockey skates since they have aged. Does anyone know where I can find large sizes and which manufacturer makes them? I would rather buy online. Im a size 15 shoe.

    Thanks!

check hockeygiant.com and hockeygear.com, I believe that one of them has larger sizes available.

    Dave,

I will be moving to Seattle. Any inline leagues there?
Could you provide some good links?

    Hi Reaper,

You're 25 and think you're old? Are you nuts? I'm at least 29, and I'm still playin'

Seriously, it's never too late if you keep in shape and wear the right equipment. I remember a guy who used to play pickup at the beach in Santa Monica, California, who was 52. Knowledge of the game can be a great equalizer to speed and youth... or so I tell myself
