O-50 hockey

This post, next to the U-6 Hockey post, should make for interesting contrast...

With the USA Hockey Inline announcement regarding this year's Inline Cup (adult nationals) for October 8-11, in Southern California, we are also very excited about the creation of the first 50 & over division of inline tournament play in hockey history...

The Polar Bears, from the Nations-Tobin Recreation Center, El Paso, Texas would like to solicit players to play with us in this year's event. We have a core group of skaters, and would be looking for a couple of players to join us, as well as a goalkeeper...

We are specifically looking for players who want to play on a team that skates 6 skaters and the goalie...

Please lemme know at [email protected], and [email protected]. If you send to both email addresses, it gets to me faster, so thanks! for going to the extra effort!

Hope to see all our "old guy division" friends out on the blue floor!

I would...but then I would also have to admit being too decrepid to skate competitively anymore....

    Re: O-50 hockey

With all due respect to both Rich G. & Rich F., both of whom need to be careful because "young-whippersnapper-of-the-month" awards will start this summer,

    Mike:

How do we know what "competitive" in the O-50 division would even be?

I have only some minimal measure of judgment vs:

    1. In our local A/B/C mixed skills rec league, I must work my butt off to never let Tony D. go by me, and when Jimmy gets the puck, I just need to get somewhere, because he will always get it to me...

    2. In our local Over-30, decidedly novice level league, I can control the game from the back line, with varying degrees of resultant success, dependent upon my teammate's skills or tactical ability at any given moment,

    3. Likewise the intermediate or novice league divisions, as #2 above...

    4. In Over-40 national tournament play, I perceive my skills to be lower intermediate, but none of the guys who have been markedly "better than me" in past USAHIL nationals have been over 50...there was Jean-Peirre, from Hawaii, who was pretty good, though...

So, at the moment, who knows what level true over-50 might be??? The U.S. Senior Games, as well as the International and state versions, lists no competition for over-50 athletes presently...The Snoopy Cup, of course, on the ice side of the house, as well as the USA Hockey ice nationals, do host over-50 competition. I have not had the priviledge of participating with either of these events yet...

Over-50 inline nationals are therefore an exciting opportunity, and we'll all find out together what constitutes the state-of-the-art...

Mike, hope to see you in Irvine this October, eh?

    Hi Danny,

Will the refs in the 50+ Division double as Emergency Medical Technicians?

Will Geritol be a sponsor? I guess that... Depends...
