    Nike Roller Daddy vs. HiHo

Since the new Tour boots will not work for me, I started leaning toward the Nike skates. I tried on a Nike Quest Shadow and found it to be very comfortable. I was wondering if the Roller Daddy and HiHo were just as comfortable. If they are, I would prefer to buy a skate that is more mid to upper range in performance and design, rather than just settling for the Quest!

Anything you can tell me about the Roller Daddy & HiHo would be Great!

    Thanks!

I used the Roller Daddys for about 15 games and had no problem breaking them and at all, just like a Nike Shoe. Very Nice Skates.

Cool, I am thinking about a pair of them or the HiHo's! I tried the new Tours, but the tongue on the boot was very uncomfortable on my right ankle. Bummer, because I really liked the new Hum'er chassis...it was very fast and I noticed no marked difference in turning from the Hi-Lo!
Stopping and backward skating was Great! The RedMax is way too flimsy for my size though!

    Thanks!

Yes it is, but all three models share the same tongue and it kills my right ankle. I tried everything, but that tongue just kept digging into me Big Time! I really wanted to get the Beemers or the BlueMax, but the tongue situation makes that impossible now! I finally found someone here locally that carries the Hi-Ho and Roller Daddy, so I am going over to try them on and see if they are comfortable! Worst case scenario, I will buy a pair of Beemers or Bluemax's and have the tongue altered by a shoe repair guy that fixes stuff for me from time to time. Skating on the Hum'er was cool, even though the RedMax was way too flimsy, the extra speed and grip was very nice and smooth!

ok, pitty about that tongue. I would really like to have a look at it myself but i live in australia and cant find a local shop that stocks them.

by the way, is there a reason that the tongue only hurts your right ankle? maybe you have a defective skate.

and what are your opinions on the 9 lace eyelets? Is it really that important, especially with the stiffer beemer boot as i would imagine the foot would be held in place 80% by the boots stiffness and fit. (i remember skating fairly easily with my tour 9000's, with the lacing totally undone)

i personally would really like the tours, mainly due to my brand loyalty

I wanted to give you my view point on the skates that you are asking about. The Hi-Ho skates are by far one of the best skates that our kids have been skating on. The boot is pretty light and the gel packed boot makes the boot wearable just out of the box. No real breakin. The boot is very comfortable. The Shadow is based on the same boot. Like the Hi-Ho it too is very comfortable. The boys on our teams are very happy with their Hi-Ho skates and when I say no breakin time they were comfortable with the skates just out of the box from day one.

I had the same tongue problem on my Tour 962's, on the left outside ankle only. Had a LHS add some extra padding to the edge and that took care of that.

I had the Tour 950's before the 962's and those had only 9 eyelets and they were just as comfortable and supportive if not more so than the 962's.

Just make sure to use waxed laces if keeping your skates tight is the issue.

    Cheers.

On behalf of my son I can attest to the comfort right out of the box on the Hi Ho's..."most comfortable skates I have ever worn" was the direct quote...no blisters right from day one. He loves the boot...no complaints about the chassis either.

The only change he made was to switch the Dynasties for his Rink Rats...

Re: Nike Roller Daddy vs. HiHo

I am probably the Biggest Tour Freak there is, but the G-Series and now this latest Series, is leading me to the Nikes! I am not sure why it is only my right ankle, but there was no damage or mutation on the skate or tongue, so I guess it is just my ankle. Everyone is different and I am no exception!
The 9 eyelets is a problem for me, because I am used to the 902/962's that I have been skating on for 4+ years. Each have 10 eyelets and about 3/4" more boot at the top of the ankle. I am just used to the support it gives me. I am a very aggressive defensmen and the boot gives me Great support for my weight and size...6'1" 205 lbs.
Having to chase all those young fast kids around, makes that support even more important! I play "B" League and most "B" Leagues are sprinkled with some "A" players and they are a handful to play against!

The lack of ankle support in the new boots, plus the taller wheels...made the lack of support that much more apparent as it would relate to the skating necessary for hockey and for my own style of play.

If the Nike HiHo's fit really well, I was thinking about maybe switching the chassis out to the Hum'er when they become available!

So they do not have Tour in your part of Australia? That kind of sucks!
Have you tried ordering them online from a company that will ship International?

If you cannot find a dealer, let me know and I will see if I can help you out if at all possible.

I live for waxed laces, it's the only way I can keep my boots tight! I hate loose boots!!
I have given some thought to buying the BlueMax and having the tongue altered, but if the Nikes are just as good or better for me, then of course why bother!

I do like the Hum'er chassis though! It was effortless to skate...speed was not an issue and turning, stopping, backwards skating wasn't either!

It will just take some time for people to see it is a good chassis!

I was just at a USA Junior Development camp in GA and there were about 8 kids with the new Beemers, and I asked them all what they thought of the skates and they loved them. Seems like noone really had too much trouble adapting from Hi-Lo's to the Hummer chassis. Seems like a good skate, but I'll stick with my Bauers.

    Take care, Fred.

"switching the chassis out to the Hum'er when they become available!" That's not really possible, as Tour actually reccesed the the two front wheels into the boot which might also be causing your problem. The 80mm wheels only fit if there is the reccesion of material, thus Labeda is not making aftermarket frames, at least thats what is the current policy. I am pretty sure that other companies are going to adopt this all 80 idea as it feels like a Hi-Lo frame but with extra grip and speed so you might want to wait on switching skates!

Re: Nike Roller Daddy vs. HiHo

Well, the Labeda rep said that the Hum'er will be avialable soon and I bought a pair of Tour RedMax's and dremeling out the space needed on another boot is minimal, plus they are going to offer a spacer as well. There is not as much clearence needed as you might think. While I had the RedMax's, it became clear to me that it would not bee hard at all to install a Hum'er on another boot, like the HiHo!

Go over to the Labeda forum and you will see the posts about the Hum'er. I like the HiLo chassis, but I wanted to try the Hum'er and see if I liked it after getting a chance to skate on it for a number of games or pick up.
