TORHS Cary Regional Results
Hi Folks,
From TORHS:
***
This past weekend at the TORHS Cary Regional was a very emotional tournament. As many of you know, Deebs Young, one of the great ones, just age 14, was killed in a car accident a little over a week ago. The regional in Cary, North Carolina was dedicated to Deebs. Deebs played for the East Coast Generals, which also participated in the tournament. The outpouring of love and support for the Young family was overwhelming Deebs touched so many people in his short life.
TORHS had a banner displayed of Deebs throughout the weekend. During the opening ceremonies, Deebs 2004 All TORHS Jersey was given to the Young family. TORHS also announced the Deebs Young Scholarship Fund. This will be awarded at the 2004 National Championships in Taylor, Michigan, July 1-7. It will be presented to the player best deserving of this honor. TORHS donated the first $1,000 to get the fund started. The criteria for the scholarship fund will be forthcoming.
Players will be asked to send in a resume format of student academics and athletics to TORHS for nomination. Include an essay on why you should be the one to receive this prestigious award. The banner of Deebs will be sold, and TORHS will donate $100 for each banner sold. Also, the Little PRO Academy will donate an additional $100 for each banner sold for the first 50 banners, and donate $50 for each banner thereafter. The banners can be hung at any facility in the country. T-shirts will be made in memory of Deebs, and $5 will be donated to the fund for each shirt. A special thanks to the Zabuld family, Ladanza family and the Michaux family for the first donations to the fund.
TORHS would like to thank all teams, players, parents and coachs for making this weekend a very special event. We would also like to recognize the courage of the East Coast Generals' teammates of Deebs Young:
Nick Michaux, Peter Hinkle, Mike Dula, Barry Lang, Mike Ford, Mike Hollingsworth, Tommy Deatley, Ty Hall, Robert McGregor, William Russo, Spencer Saunders, Wesley Floyd, Kemp Young, William Boss and
Coach Allan Newell
