    ABEC vs SWISS

Ive always just bought ABEC bearing but guys on my team are now buying SWISS bearing and are telling me they are faster and better then ABEC's. I just want some other opinions.

Ceramics are probably the best, but they can cost big bucks. For the cash, nothing can touch swiss. Try'm you won't be disappointed.

    bearings, the sequel

Guys, there have been at least three message discussions on this in the last year or so...

    Please note:

    1. ABEC is not a brand or a type, but a tolerance/precision measurement system. Machine tooled things, like bearings, are measured as to how round they are by the ABEC scale.

    2. Boss Swiss bearings, which until recently, have never marketed their product by highlighting the ABEC rating of their bearings, are generally understood to be produced with the "best" materials (whether "best" means hardest, most heat-tolerant, or whatever, I don't know), which is why they perform excellently, and last darn near forever.

You could imagine that a set of bearings with an ABEC rating of 15 (which is the highest), but made out of wood, for example, wouldn't work very well or last very long.

It is the Boss Swiss habit of using superior materials to make its products that has gained them the reputation for excellence that they have. The bearings are generally understood to be ABEC 1's or ABEC 3's, unless they are noted differently on the packaging...even the Swiss ABEC 1's outperform, in most' opinion, the ABEC 5's or 7's of other manufacturers.

"ABEC," by the way, stands for Annular Bearing Engineering Council, the scientific body that established the standards and testing regimen for this type of product.
