Helmets

I am looking for information on the helmet with the most protection. My son took a good shot to the head last week and got me thinking more about it. He used to wear a bauer 5000 but when we bought one for his travel team we bought a Nike helmet. I have heard people say the bauer 5000 is the best and others say Jofa make an ugly but very protective helmet. Can anyone tell me where I can find good information on this or give me their opinion from their experience? Thank you!!!!!

I think Bauer just came out, or is just coming out, with an 8000..you may want to check that out...also check on "ice hockey equipment" in the www.corebeam.net forums...a lot of discussion there too.

The Bauer 5000 is a good helmet. Nike's new helmet the Nike Quest is a very good helmet. It's know as the concussion helmet. Has an air bladder in the back lower part of the helmet that you pump to the desire fit. Bauer also makes the new 8000 helmet which is a good helmet as well. The Nike Quest helmet takes some getting used too look wise and the boys say that it has more padding then their other helmets so they have to get used to that as well but I have seen a few kids go head first into the goal posts with this helmet on and get up like nothing happened. I guess it's whatever your kid prefers to wear because if he wears it and it fits properly it's better then the old Jofa helmet that was made of light weight plastic with almost no padding at all.

i have the bauer 5000, and i love it. I wore it for one season of travel hockey and 2 seasons of high school. and i still wear it. It fits nice and is easy to adjust. I took a few shots in the head and hit the boards a few times pretty hard and i can still see straight so i guess it works pretty good. the jofa's are just plain nasty and i son't like the look of the new bauer helmets. The nike one isn't bad.
