    How to deke the goalie...?

Anyone ever find that they run out of moves when they're one-on-one with the goalie?? I know a wise option is to shoot early, but a wide array of moves in front of the net can't hurt to have at your disposal, right??

I've been trying to replicate a Pavel Datsyuk move but its different in roller to ice.

Anyway,it'd be cool if anyone had any moves simple or otherwise they'd like to share. Don't give away all your secrets...the goalies might be watching.

    Cheers,
    Dave

i found that in ice and roller a good hard head fake works well against novice goalies. It's simple and effective.

    I agree with this poster.

My "go-to-the-well" move is to come in straight on a goalie, deke to my backhand and drop the shoulder like I'm going to make a power move, but instead tap the puck mid-shift through the five hole. It will work just about every time.

I like to keep my head mostly down as I skate in (its easier to do if you have a cage or visor on) and watch the goalie when (and he usually does) he tries to pokecheck; go wide, and its smooth sailing...

I like to come in on a goalie drop my shoulder/upper body and let the goalie fall. Then just slide to my forehand and put it top shelf.

You guys are kidding me right? We don't fall for those tired tricks. Shoulder/head fakes, oh stop it now. Only a tender who is not that strong of a skater, would fall for those circus stunts. Come on tenders, tell'em. Bring those weak moves. Make us look great.

See i told you the goalies'd be listening. So what kinda moves do you goalies have to psyche us out on those 1-on-0 plays? Show a little more glove? big 5-hole? What?

I like to come in as fast as possible, make the goalie drop, and lift the puck up over the glove side shoulder. Its way harder to get up there.

Ive been waiting for you to chime in on this one Rog. Let them have what they think will work.

Beware of a goalie that carries three sticks!

Re: How to deke the goalie...?

After missing a penalty shot in a tied championship game I went through in my head all the possible options of what I COULD do from the 3 angles. Basically I wasn't prepared I just went in, got close and shot the puck over the net. (Yeah, we lost the game). BTW, I am a righty.
Left Side: Wrist shot 1,2,3,4,5 holes, slapshot(anywhere), backhand/forehand around, backhand/forehand fivehole, forehand/throw on the breaks bring it back to the backhand and go high.

Up the middle: Wrist/snap shot 2,3,4,5 holes, slapshot.

From the right side: Wrist/snap shot 2,3,4,5 holes, slap shot, forhand/backhand(5-hole or between the legs).

That way I started thinking about what I could do and know about it.

Dunno if it helps or not.

I am sure I left something out.

Oh yeah, I am more likely the guy who skates around the other team than through them stickhandling and then picks a corner than shake and bake. So that would explain my extensive shot/deke ratio.

Re: How to deke the goalie...?

I think if you've got quick hands that can deal with something when it comes, when you go in to deke the goalie not thinking about the move, you can make something up pretty quick and it might end up being something the goalie isn't expecting.
Sure if the goalie does everything by the book he should stop it. But my netminder always tells me that i'm difficult to stop because he can't even begin to imagine what i might do cos he knows that i don't know what i'm about to do either.

I don't know if that makes any sense??

I suppose though at the end of the day its about scoring that elusive goal while you've got the chance.....so Kids...always shoot early.

Re: How to deke the goalie...?

I hate penalty shots as a goalie and as a skater. As a skater I think about what i am going to do and i usually miss. If it is during a game and i get a 1 on 1 with the goalie where i just shot i usually score. Also I have more patientence(sp) and i waitr for the goalie to make a move. As a goalie i usually suck at penalty shots or 1 on 1 because i do not have the greatest movements. I think i am a little better on the 1 on 1 during a game because i have a lot more time. Like i said i do not like them. I hope what i have told you helps.

What? You must have me confused with my twin brother. He's not a very strong skater.

What I like to do is this, first, as the players coming down....yea, right? I'll never tell.
