Girls that Play

I was just wondering for all you fellas out there, what do you think of girls/women that play hockey? Be honest-- I wont get mad atcha. I am just curious. Do you like it if a girl skates? Is it only cool if she is good? or would you rather your lady sit back and watch? Curious to see what ya think!!

being a female hockey player myself, i've found that most guys think it's pretty cool that i play hockey...they usually say something along the lines like "you play hockey?? that's awesome"

but that's just been my experience...it might be different for others...it's mostly been a positive experience for me

I like seeing girls excel at sports like hockey, especially ones that compete on elite tournament teams.

I guess thats pretty much what i have seen too-- I just can never tell if the guys really like it or if they are just polite or if they are being politically correct. My excperience has been good though and I have only come across a few guys in my 15 years of playing that were outspoken about negative opinions. I just dont want to be were i am not wanted. ya know?

i completely agree...i'd rather not be there if they didn't want me to be....but i think they tend to appreciate hard work...the last thing they wanna see is exceptions being made just cuz youre a girl...

haha i have come across some guys that don't like girls playing...but they usually don't show their opinions of me through speech....just a good check or a trip or something is usually what gets their point across...

Its kinda funny that you mention that, BSU-- I noticed the same thing-- I guy will trip me or hit me pretty bad (which is fine) and I wont complain or anything and he'll say something to the effect of "if you're gonna play in a mans game, dont expect any special treatment....yadda yadda" which i always find funny-- because I take hits and trips without saying a word-- I dont complain and I guess they expect me to. Most guys are very cool though. I think 1 out of a hundred has been pissy about me playing and let me know it.

ive always wondered what guys really think. most of them tell me they think its awesome but like guys that dont play r like im scared of u now and all. but i have actually met good friends and boyfriends from hockey and they think its totally awesome that a chick plays hockey. ive never had any real bad experience with it. my friends and i get hit on, on the rink during games sometimes!

yeah, that's usually what they say. "cool! you play hockey?? rock on!!" the guys on my team really respect me, but not every guy likes to see a excel in hockey faster than himself! =)

I have had girls (women) on my team the last two summers. 2 years ago, the girl played well and ended up with 1 point in 8 games but played her position (D) well.
Last season the girl had 2 goals 3 assists in 4 games. She was a threat to score if she had the puck. Neither were pushovers. Only difference was that they changed in a different lockerroom. And if they hit someone they got away with it because they were smaller. But everyone stood up for them if they got hit. Bottom line, if you can play, I don't care if you are male, female or a hermaphrodite (well I might care about that) but really if you can play, I don't care male or female.
As for my lady, she doesn't need to play(nice if she did) but she must understand the game at least.
