2004 NARCh Tournament

The Greater Cincinnati Sports Corporation and the Greater Cincinnati Convention and Visitors Bureau have landed the 2004 North American Roller Hockey Championship, to be held July 16-31 at the Sports Plus complex on Reading Road in Evendale.
The NARCh tournament is the largest in roller hockey, bringing in some 400 teams from across the United States and North America. Teams range from Atom and Mite divisions (ages 4 and up) to 35 and older, and include women?s, junior and college divisions and an open pro division, along with a skills competition.

Very disappointed in the NARCH national last summer compared to the TORHS national. Big difference in the two. So what does the fair city of Cincinnati have to bring to the event?

Congratulations to both the Cincy Sports Corp and the Convention & Visitors group...this is a prestigious event to host and we are sure that you will do the honor proud.

To the general inline hockey community, please note: it is a MAJOR step for our sport when convention boards in communities around the country actually try to provide venues for inline hockey events. To be sure, the hosting community will gain something like $5-7 million in economic impact, and it is a frank recognition of this fact that will help develop inline hockey further and further into the American sports mainstream.

Congratulations to the NARCh organization for working with the Cincinnati people this year.

Yeah, NARCh was just so bad, it only had 300 plus teams compared to the 75 cozy teams and was in a great facility, with NARCh tv broadcasting. Guess you must not have done to well. NARCh is the best, all others just are lacking.

Yea, we didn't do so well, only winning NARCH Pro. My complaint is that NARCH structures the schedule in an unfavorable way. By the time we were ready to play, the kids were gone, who by the way NARCH depends on since they spend the most money. The Pro final had about 300 fans, TORHS had about 1000. These are just guesses so relax head counters. I just think TORHS puts on a better show. That's all. Jeez, bite my head off.

I agree.

Showcasing your most talented players is a big asset to these tournament series'. In my opinion, every game for the Juniors and Pro players should be during 'prime' hours so that the kids can see where the sport is progressing to and get excited about it.

Case and point; TORHS Winter Cup, lots of the pro games were during the day, on the main two rinks. Lots of people stuck around to watch. Kids were right there with the players and it made for some very exciting games. You make the games too early and the junior/pros will not be too happy not to mention not many will be at the rink yet. You make it too late and people have already gone home.

Tournaments have to quit putting putting these games on at 6am or at 9pm and book the younger kids early and adult/senior divisions late.

Have you ever been to the facility in Rochester? One of the best Hockey facilities anywhere!

Well maybe the $50,000 in prize money at Torhs - $40,000 - for the winning pro team - adds a little more credibility for the Pro Teams.

By the way if Team Rink Rat wins again ....do you have to give the money back to Rink Rat [img]/wtimages/icons/frown.gif[/img][img]/wtimages/icons/wink.gif[/img]?

Look they are both great tournaments, and we should be thankfull that they are available for the players.

Let's be real here. NARCh is clearly the best tournament out there. I will concede that Tony does a terrific job with the TORHS Pro division and it is far more appealing for the teams and players discussing this topic. However, there is no comparison between the experience my Jr Growl kids experienced last summer in Ft Myers and any other national experience they have ever had. These tournament smust be geared toward kids because that is where they are going to consistently make their money. I believe strongly that TORHS is rapidly catching up and I look forward to going to TORHS Nationals and seeing the many improvements Tony and Lori have in store. Don't get me wrong NARCh and TORHS are still in a class by themselves in comparison to all the others, but NARCh take a back seat to anyone after last years event.

Oh boy here we go again... the old NARCH vs. TORHS thing again. When is everyone going to finally realize both tourneys are great... bottom line. Yes, both have aspects better than the other but both are doing great things for the sport. Yes there was more fans at the TORHS Pro finals but then again we were in the middle of nowhere, Rochester and not sunny FLA. I'm pretty sure all the kids got out of TECO asap to hit the beach or whatever. Bottom line Darren & Tony are both trying to do whatever they can do for the sport.
