    Girls' Western Tourney

    All:

Howdy! once again from El Paso, Texas...

We are in the process of "opening up and settling into" our brand new rink. We are very proud of our new facility: the floor, boards, scoreboard, dressing rooms, spectator area...all are first rate...

As part of our planning process for our new rink, please allow me to be the first to invite you to:

The First Annual Western Regional Girls Inline Hockey Tournament

    Saturday/Sunday; March 20-21, 2004

    Nations-Tobin Municipal Inline Hockey Arena
    8831 Railroad Drive
    El Paso, TX, 79904
    (915) 757-2743

We hope to have five teams, with each team playing a minimum of five games over the day-and-one-half format: Round robin, ladder playoff...USAHIL rule book applies...

Age group, specially for this competition: "15 & under" Born 1988-1992 (ages 11-15 years old)...We hope for this to be an "intermediate" age group, which is listed in the USA Hockey Inline rule book, but is "in between" the 17's and 12's that have been hosted at the various nationals...

If this event is successful, we hope to have (convince? con?) Dianne Thompson at SixPac USA include this age/division at the SixPac Nationals July 4th weekend in Las Vegas...

...and the best part, we are having this event sanctioned by USA Hockey Inline, and the team fee to play is only $65.00...really cool, eh?

We will have an excellent hotel package available for those who want to play...

We are hoping that our association with all of you over the past years will help you each get together groups of girls from your area, and we can continue to development of Girls' inline through this new level.

Please let me know if you have an interest in participating in this new event...we really hope to see you out on the blue floor here in El Paso in March 2004!

    -Dan

Texas is not Western Danny, unless your talking about cowboys. LMAO. Send more info as the time gets closer. We are currently hosting a women's series in Huntington Beach, CA (WEST) once a month with at least 4 teams. Hopefully the November tournament will have 6 teams. The level of play is very good and hopefully it will draw girls and women of all ages and skills to try it out.
    Good Luck

    Danny,

This is a great idea; as is the CalSelects monthly series in Huntington Beach, Ca. Maybe we can run one in Huntington, West Virginia in May or June. I will speak to our facility director and let everyone know.

I will do my best to have the Gear girls play in your tournament. Unfortunately, it is the weekend after our own AAU regional in Huntington, W. Va. and it is tough for the parents to travel 2 weekends in a row. As you know the Gear girls are comprised of players from West Virginia, Ohio, Michigan, and New York currently and we are trying to expand our program. If any females are interested please post here or send your info in an email to:

    Re: Girls' Western Tourney

Oh, man! El Paso Texas is 780 miles from Orange County, and 820 miles from Houston...not that we want to succeed from Texas, but "West Texas," roughly from Midland-westward is indeed West.

So, not to be picky, but hey, El Paso is geographically west of Denver...it is our experience that the Mississippi River divides the inline hockey community into West and East...however, we have also received a response from the folks up in the Penn/Ohio region about joining this event...

continued good luck with your series in Southern California (just to poke fun, how is anywhere in California "Southern," eh?)

The Calselect organization has hosted two tournaments for women only in October and November. We have had between 4 and 5 teams at each, but the women/girls are not as commited to this as regular boys tournaments. The level of play is excellent and the girls have fun. WE are taking a hiatus until February to flesh out the ice regionals and Nationals, but should resume then. Our 89 team is competing in these and has places 2nd in both with very close results, so a 12 year old team could play, depending on skill level.

    Tournament cancellation

it is with great disappointment that we find we must officially cancel our hoped-for event this March 20-21.

In the final analysis, of the seven teams/groups that expressed initial interest, everybody is already committed to a variety of other opportunities. Apparently the average hockey family doesn't have 8 weeks of paid vacation per year, or something to that effect...

Accordingly, we will begin immediately organizing this event for next year, in June, and we will begin with a new announcement in a few days.

This will be the event that all girls' teams: 10&U, 12&U, 14&U, and 17&U will want to plan for next year...

more later, hope to see everybody out on the blue floor!
