Easton Air Vent F5 Inline Skates

Hey, I just registered to this Forum so I'm a newbie here, my name is Steve I attend Drexel Univerisity (Sophomore) I'm 5'6" @ 140lbs.

Okay, here is my question to all of you... I JUST bought a new pair of Easton F5 Inline skates, the last pair I had were a 6 year old pair of Rollerblades.

Well my foot is having LOTS of trouble adapting to the new skate, the Easton's have a lot more support and the boot just doesn't "give" like my old ones do. It seems as if these new skates are just shells with wheels, ha! Anyway I have two blisters/sores on each foot, to the point where it's gonna bleed basically (not to gross you out but to show the severity.) I used them Saturday for about an hour and Sunday for about an hour.

I cannot even put on socks it hurts so much, my question will these skates ever get better? Or should I look towards eBay to pawn these off?

Thanks for any suggestions/help ahead of time,
    --Steve

Well...to break the new to you... your feet will hurt for a lot longer....Everyone needs to understand that breaking in skates is a time consuming, foot hurting , basic fact (www.epuck.com has good tips for this, click on the "workbench" section, then click on the "workbench tips" part to see what they recomend) ... I know someone will say, just put them in a skate bake, or put your socks or skates in water then skate in them and all that...it will help speed the process a little, but your feet will still hurt until the boot breaks in..it will take time and the best way is to sweat, sweat, and then SWEAT in them some more, so they will finally form to your foot ..and... the stiffer the boot, the longer this process will take...how long? depends on how many hours you put in the skates, but as I have read elsewhere, usually takes a good 20 hrs or so of sweaty skate time in them.. so.. take some of those new band-aid blister helpers, put them on, wear a nice thin sock or even a polypropelyne sock with a thin sock over that one to ease your pain brother... the 2nd sock will let the outer sock rub on the 1st sock you put on to help prevent blisters... hope it goes well, you have a nice skate, don't get rid of it, because the next skate you buy will be the same.... PAIN IN THE FOOT!...laters, j-bo

j_bo, I checked out epuck's workbench section and I'll be sure to find the socks they talked about, but some how I doubt it'll help that much. Oh well it seems as if I'll be painfully breaking these guys in.

And when I was playing earlier Sunday (before the snow in Philly) I had on a bandaid and two pairs of socks.

Well I hope these guys break in fast! But then again, no pain no gain right?

It is nice to know that someone else out there is going through the same pain that I am. I got my new Bauers on Thursday and after playing 2 games on Saturday, I can hardly walk. I will get a couple days off this week because of rain! Good luck with your sore feet. I totally understand your agony!!

    Hey Brenda,

Yeah I know exactly what you mean by not being able to walk! It's pretty crazy, so when these heal up a bit, I'm gonna pick up some socks recommended at www.epuck.com then hopefully break them in ASAP. Let me know if you find any good tips on hurrying the process

Bauers are notoriously hard to break-in, or so I hear. I know some folks on a sponsored Bauer team that will only wear the Bauer skates they got for free in games, and for all the other times, they wear skates of their choice to avoid blisters and sore ankles.

    Steve,

First, your skate problem. Nothing will escape you from the pains of breaking a new boot, but you can do somethings to make it a little easier. First, make sure you tie your skates very well. That means snug over the top of your toes and foot, nice and tight above your heel, and snug around your ankle. Make sure your heel is sitting nicely in the boot and doesn't move around. Wearing a similiar pair of socks (same weight and thickness) each time your skate also helps.

Also, don't make the mistake of unlacing your boot too much after you skate. Just loosen the laces enough to get your foot out; this way, you don't change the lace pattern too much the next time you skate by missing an eyelet or something.

There's nothing worse than breaking skates in wrong and having them hurt forever. My current skates ('99 Mission Proto VSIs) gave me blisters for about a month before they were a good fit. I've never had any of my skates baked, so I couldn't tell you if that helps or not. A few guys on my team have baked the 2000 VSI and skated in games the next night with no problem.

Second, where the heck are you skating at DU? I remember adding you to our mailing list a while back, but I know I've never met you or played with you (at least I think) and I think you unsubscribed from our list. I look forward to meeting up with you and playing some hockey. Get in touch with me.

    Thanks!
