Redstar alloy
Has anyone used the new Redstar alloy chassis yet. I have only talked to a few people that have had them and they say that they haven't had any problems with them. I just wanted some more input. And does anyone know if the 688 mini bearings are getting phased out?

Re: Redstar alloy
The hype of the mini has long past. The old 608's roll better in my oppinion. But the 688's are a lot lighter. Depends when you want. I personally use mini swiss. But I am probably going to go back to the 608's because of the better rolling.

Re: Redstar alloy
I've had horrible luck with the mini's... One I've always had a hard time getting wheels to fit them. Secondly I had to combine two sets of mini's because I somehow manage to shatter half a set of them every 1-2 seasons

Re: Redstar alloy
You are lucky to get that much time out of them...they became very popular in speed skating with skaters at the top end of competition...........who probably have someone providing new bearings on a regular basis. The weight differentuial might show up at the end of a 20 k race.....but it would be pretty hard to measure. We found them very prone to humidity and lasted less than 1/4 season.

Re: Redstar alloy
well im going to be purchasing the red star alloys as soon as i can get the money cause i hate this vibe crap i have on my wicked lights right now. So ill come back here when i have them and let ya know how they are. As for mini bearings, it really depends on which ones you get. If you get some of the cheap ones they fall apart. I have a set of ninja mini mmeiser's-the 80 buck ones. At first i used them outside and they got junked up really fast. that is b/c they are smaller bearings and they have smaller balls (yea that sounds weird) and runners. So i got them cleaned and now i only use them indoor. They havent been a problem since. I think that my mini's have twice as good a roll as abec 7's and are probably only second, in my mind, to my swiss bearings. Swiss just kick total ass period. So i really think it depends on which ones you get. Mine spin great and their incredibly light. Once i get the red star alloy chassis and put my mini's on my skates are finally truly going to be wicked light.

Re: Redstar alloy
I ended up buying the redstar chassis. It's really lite. I've only skated on them for a few times so far. No problems as of yet.
