    Re: Philadelphia Sting Tryouts

Have the Sting improved at all with their recent acquisitions or deletions? Word around the block is that they still have same slow and inept skaters back on the blue line. Goaltending is pretty shaky from what I gathered from the tourney as well. Heres my opinion on the team. Maybe, it is time to cut the cord on everyone's buddies and try and put a team that could actually compete against Marple or the Firebirds ( congrats on the tourney) this year. If you want to put a good team on the floor where people will come out and want to spend five bucks to watch, I think you should look for skill and speed ( like Anaheim). Being slow and having the ability to pummel the other team doesn't win you championships ( Flyers come to mind). I am not trying to throw jabs here, but I want to see a competitive team out there, not one who will get beat by Marple 13-3 like in March. The sad part in all of this is I am still a Sting fan by heart. Feel free to disagree....

    Re: Philadelphia Sting Tryouts

Coming from a past Sting player, I think the team has made tremendous improvements from the past two years. They have picked up good players such as Plaugher, K. Stevens, as well as Mooers (hope the spelling is correct Bob). Last season they added players in mid season that helped them out as well. Im not sure where you are seeing the lack of speed? Yeah the sting is a smash mouth kind of team but that is their style and I think it will get them far. They have always been that way and it's not going to change. If you think your going to get championship type games out the the tourny at Marple you must be dreaming. First, you have people who are on vacation and are unable to make the game. Second, you have guys who have not been doing much during the off season... this applies to every team not just the Sting. Trust me, if Joe Verna thought there was something hurting his team he would get rid of it regardless of who is friends or who isnt. He isn't there for his health, he is there to win. Your right when you say there are a bunch of friends on the team, the core of the team was originated by those few players and those players are good enough to play for any team in the MLRH. I personally think the Sting have good chances this season and will be top contenders. The only thing you can do is wait and see when the regular season starts. Im sure you will be at all the games since your a die hard fan....
Thats just my opinion. Enjoy the season fellas.

In what I have heard from the world of hockey, the Sting weren't too nice to you AJH. I guess you are more forgiving than some people are ( a possible PR job in your future). As for Stevens, like Growl said, what is his over under on whether he shows up or not. Unless Speed Demon guy shows up on the roster, I still think they have the slowest defenders in the league. Yea, Verna would love to make money ( see Marple owner). The fact is, a lot of the guys that are still on the team that have no business playing at an elite level ( sure they could play on any team, if they pay their money they should). Your other point as being top contenders, I believe you are dreaming there. All you have to do is go up and down the ringer's lineup or Marple's and see that there is no contest there. Can they compete? Sure, as in every team has a chance to win in the NFL every sunday as well. Again, this is mostly factual info here. I still want them to do well because there are some good people playing on the team ( mr. henning, tj, etc.). Where are you going to play AJH? From the MLRH site, there are plenty of tryouts going on. Enjoy your weekend boys...

I really dont know what your talking about with them treating me unfairly. The fact is that I asked Mr. Verna to be released because I wanted more playing time and I asked to be sent to the Riot. That was all my decision and no one elses. I hold no enemies and I think the organization is great and that they are going to go places. As far as playing, I stopped playing when the Riot folded and I dont think I will be back to play. It really is useless talking about what they can and can't do, just wait till the season starts... I am sure they will be turning some heads. I'll see you at their games Rusty. Take care and enjoy.
