Gervais Joins SpeedHockey International
Former Anaheim Star Will Join Team Canada for September 13 Game at UC Irvine
The International SpeedHockey, League, a new major professional inline hockey league, announced today it has reached agreement with Victor Gervais to play in SpeedHockey's inaugural game on September 13 at UC Irvine's Bren Center.
"Victor Gervais has been one of the elite inline hockey players for years," said Bob Elder, SpeedHockey, Commissioner. "His name was synonymous with the Anaheim Bullfrogs and he played a vital role in the Bullfrogs' success. We know Southern California fans will be excited to have the opportunity to see Victor in action once again."
Gervais starred in Roller Hockey International and stands as that league's fifth all-time leading scorer with 315 points (107 goals, 208 assists) in 96 games,
all with Anaheim. He will join a formidable Team Canada squad in SpeedHockey's exhibition game. The Canadian side, which will battle Team USA, includes such inline stars as Hugo Belanger and Gerry St. Cyr.
A 5'9", 170-pound native of Prince George, British Columbia, Gervais was a ninth round selection (187th overall) of the Washington Capitals in the 1989 NHL
Entry Draft. He played junior hockey with the Western Hockey League's Seattle Thunderbirds, completing his junior career with a 96-assist, 160-point season
(64-96-160) in 1989-1990. As a pro, Gervais compiled 596 points (205-391-596) in nine seasons (469 games) in the American Hockey League, International Hockey
League, and East Coast Hockey League.
SpeedHockey, will play its inaugural exhibition game at UC Irvine's Bren Events Center on Saturday night, September 13. Game time is 7:35 p.m. The game will pit Team USA against Team Canada. In addition to Gervais, Belanger and St. Cyr, other players signed to compete in the game include goaltender Rob Laurie and forwards CJ Yoder and Jami Yoder. Laurie and the Yoder brothers recently led the USA National Inline team to a gold medal in the Pan American Games. CJ Yoder notched a hat trick in the championship game.
