NJ Bullets Roller Hockey Press Release
A Member Team of Major League Roller Hockey
July 31, 2003
Edison, NJ ? The NJ Bullets, a member team of Major League Roller Hockey (MLRH.com) announced today a major shakeup in its front office. With the departure of Adam Stio as head coach and general manager, the Bullets announced the naming of AJ Wertz as Head Coach, Jimmy Daubner as Assistant Coach, and Bret Leuthner as General Manager and Director of Player Personnel.
In making the announcement, Team Owner, Adam Paskoff stated ?The Bullets Organization is very excited about these changes in the front office. AJ is a proven winner who has established himself as a players coach who will draw out the best from his players. With his established connections in the Edison, NJ area, we will continue our goal of establishing our team as the #1 value in sports entertainment in North Jersey and introduce new fans to the exciting sport of Roller Hockey.?
Head Coach AJ Werz has been a fixture in the roller hockey community for years. He coached the New York Flash to the 2002-03 Championship in the MLRH-W league. Excited to step up to the challenge of the top men?s league in the world AJ will bring his unique leadership skills to the Bullets. AJ has stated that the number one quality he is looking for in a player is heart. Do not expect a Bullets team to quit in any game this season.
Asst. Coach Jimmy Daubner has been with the Bullets since the team was granted an expansion license in the 2001-02 season. Well respected by the players, Jimmy earned the promotion to the coaching staff.
?I have seen the potential of this team and the impact it has in the sport of roller hockey in New Jersey. I look forward to the challenge of making the Bullets into contenders? stated the new Assistant Coach.
Completing the trifecta is GM and Dir. Of Player Personnel Bret Leuthner. Bret also has been with the Bullets since the start. Previously known as the ?voice of the Bullets?, Bret will retain the position of game day announcer in addition to his expanded role with the team.
On taking the GM/Director of Player Personnel position:
"I'm really excited about the challenge that is ahead of me with the Bullets. Being with the organization from the start really helps me with understanding how things need to get done around here. Mr. Paskoff has been a supportive owner, and I look forward to working with him to build the team back up to the high levels we have set for it. I look forward to using my hockey knowledge, as well as the connections I have developed in my 10 years in roller hockey, and turn the Bullets into contenders and hopefully even champions. MLRH provides a stiff challenge for any team, especially with the great teams from Marple, Garden State, and Williamsburg, but we plan on putting New Jersey right alongside those teams and in elite company."
On AJ Wertz and Jimmy Daubner as the Coaching brain-trust:
"I've seen the excellent job AJ has done with the NY Flash in W-MLRH, and I've had Jimmy as an assistant with me when I coached the North Jersey Rage team out of the Montvale rink this year. If I wasn't confident that either one of them could do the job at this level, then I wouldn't have them on the Bullets bench. But I do have that confidence that they will do the job and do it well."
On the Bullets and MLRH future:
"This is a turning point season for both the Bullets and the MLRH. The Bullets, and MLRH must both continue to build fan support. This league has tremendous talent and potential, and we all must do our jobs, not just the Bullets organization, but every other organization in MLRH, to make sure the fans know about these players. If we can do that, then the sky is the limit for us and MLRH."
The New Jersey Bullets enter into their 3rd season in MLRH. The Bullets ended the 2002-03 season 5-9-0 and finished second place in the competitive Empire Division. The Bullets play out of the Inman Sports Rink, 880 Inman Avenue, Edison, NJ. For more information on NJ Bullets Roller Hockey, please visit www.NJBullets.com.
