G'day bagurk,

I don't have those skates, but I hope they're perfect for you. Welcome to IHC, my Australian friend. I traveled Down Under when I was 18 and it was the greatest experience of my life... next to creating IHC, of course.

I just got a pair of the Maverick's myself.
I had a question about skate baking these.
First off, can these be skate baked? What steps or precautions are involved in doing so (remove wheels, footbed, etc.)?
There is no mention in the manual or box about this.
thanks

The Mavericks can be baked. I had it done to mine at my local proshop. The only prep was to remove the wheels and shoe liner.

Not to discourage anybody from using these skates. But I bought a pair of mavericks about a year ago. And I managed to break the chassis clean off the back of the left skate and crack it on the right. I guess I'm just really hard wearing on skates. Otherwise they're pretty good, if a little hard to lace up. Problem was they broke a week before I was due to go to the world championships in germany to play warm-up games. Luckily I got my Mission D1's just in time.

yea, thanks for the comments

i have actually read elsewhere of opinions that the CCM chassi's are a bit weak

however i have also heard that the boot is preety good which is pleasing to hear.

it will be a damn pitty if the skate isnt very decent, considering i am paying top dollar for a top of the line skate model.

ok heres what happend with my skates...

they didnt arrive, i phoned and asked why. he said that he didnt have any in stock and has to wait for another load to come in. he then offered me some alternative models that he has in stock such as the mission D2, the mission 2002 RTx (which he reccomended) and tour G80. He offered me each of these for the same price of $830 which i have already payed. i took his advice (BAD MOVE) and went for the RTx. i made this silly hasty decision cos i was getting a bit sick of waiting + i thought - the skate must be reasonably decent by what he is telling me.. !

although, a bit later after some thought (that i shoudl have done in the first place) and a bit of internet browsing, im preety sure i made the wrong decision. i think that he was just trying to get rid of the RTx skates, as it later became apparent to me that the ViBE chassis used on the RTx skates are not good (after reading some comments on here etc). not to mention this is a 2002 model skate.

I didnt want the D2 skate as i know it only has a 6000 series alumninium chassis not 7000.

anyways, i phoned him back and expressed my regrets and he seems to understand and doesnt mind if i send them back again for a swap.. (!!!) the whole ordeal is very frustrating..

mean while i have to decide which ones i want to get ONCE AND FOR ALL (and im not gonna let myself be bothered by how long i have to wait for them, this time).

i want a top of the line model, or close to it (i skate hard and i want the skates to last also.) This basically means either: mission D1's, tour G90's, or CCM outcast (as i was originally going to get).

this is my current opinion of each of them:

mission D1's: i have no doubt that these skates are very good but i get a bit turned off by all the marketting around mission skates. This leads me to believe that the skates are a bit over priced. im not prepared to spend in excess of $1000 for a pair of skates.

tour G90's: this is the model i am leaning towards currently, as they seem to be good from reading the specifications, and arent (i dont THINK) as expensive as the D1's. also, my last pair of skates were tour 9000's and they served me well (only problem i ever had was the scuff guard stitching eventually, after alot of usage, started to break.)

CCM outcast: the skates i was gonna get in the first place, but after reading some bad things about the chassis im not so sure about these any more. (i have read that the boot etc is all good but the chassis is weak)

any comments about these skates are appreciated

thanks.

Stay away from the "vibe" definitely. There are quite a few happy users of the new Mission D1's and Tour G90's on here. And also some of the other last year models as well.

Personally I think one of the best bargains was the Nexed Stingers with a two degree Hi/lo chassis - but they were a clearance item and seem to be all gone now on Hockey Monkey. If you can find a set they are still a great skate - they were dumping them for $139.00 USD on Hockey Monkey not too long ago. (new $379.00) My son still uses the chassis even though he wore out the boot (plays MLRH) - and that does not mean the boots are bad - he wears them all out in less than 2 seasons.

But if you were going to accept an older year model you could save a bundle on Hockey Monkey - check it out if you have not already - most of last years models are less than 50% of new. www.Hockey Monkey.com

I agree, I have the Stingers and they are very nice. Hockey Giant has them for $139.00 USD, same as Hockey Monkey.

Here is the link in case Hockey Monkey is sold out

Just fyi, the chassis on my CCM Mavericks got bent due to taking a shot off them. I sent the defective skate back to hockeymonkey.com (who I purchased them from). They told me they could send them back to CCM for repair. After about 2 months or more I wound up getting a brand new pair in the mail (which was very cool).
