Team Ireland Vs Team South Africa????

A friend of mine told me that Ireland have formed an inline team to play two friendlys in Germany against South Africa as warm up games for them. Anyone heard anything about this?????

Team Ireland are scheduled to play South Africa in two warm up games before the IIHF world championships starting very soon in Germany. I am actually in Germany now and cant wait to play. There is more than one team in Ireland and the standard is okay. Theres a good mix in the leagues of young irish talent and ex ice players that are still exceptional players although obviously they wont be eligible for the national team. We had a four nations tournament before Christmas in England with games against England, Wales and Germany B team. We beat Wales lost 4 - 0 to England and something like 5-1 to Germany so we´re not that bad. We will have to see if were good enough nice to see though theres interest in the games.

Found out the following

Ireland lost both expo matches against South Africa 9-1 and 11-3. goals for Ireland came from Ross Killen, Nigel Smeaton and Brian Blery. Irelands first goal in the second match was a beauty. Their isnt much information about Ireland on the IIHF or the official worldcup websites, i think they deserve a mention since it was their first time playing at this level, they did a hell of a job.

hey thanks speedfreak. I played for ireland in germany aswell. Pity we lost both games. We have a couple of really good players who weren't able to come because they were abroad, who would've made quite a difference but what can ya do? Hey we're getting better and hopefully will qualify for the worlds next year. It'd be handy if we could get some sponsorship and maybe a proper rink or two over here in ireland though.

Yes it's tough to compete if you cannot practice on Sport Court or it's equivalent - takes a while to get the different feel for stickhandling, skating and the puck speed and by the time you do you maybe too much in a hole to climb out.
