I hesitate to even mention this after all the press the Lindenwood/ Michigan game recieved concerning the Lindenwood's game tactics. Think of this as a foot note however irrelevant it may seem.

From rule 75 of the CIHA(Canadian Inline Hockey Association) rulebook: "except for carrying the puck behind his/her net, a player must continuously strive to advance the puck towards the opponents goal, unless directly prevented from doing so by the opposition." Maybe a good insertion into the CRHL rule book.

Thank you - was too incompetent to figure out how to transfer it.

just outta curiosity, can this rule be administered before the national championships starts? that way, no one can create excuses for loosing in the NCT and everyone can leave with shining, yet happy faces, or since the rule was not passed at the beginning of the year, does that mean sitting behind the net is still legal?

don't have the rule book, but, to those that do...

is there any "general administrative rule" that referees can use against unsportsmanlike or unfair delaying tactics...???

Sometimes, rulebooks have some "...or other unsportsmanlike conduct..." rule tacked on to the more specific ones. With such a rule in hand, the refs can officially notify all teams that hey intend to penalize delaying the puck behind the net as unsportsmanlike.

"Specific application" of a general rule is done effectively in all sports, whenever there comes into being a patently unfair tactic.

John Kelly, star catcher, team captain, and manager for the Boston Braves around the turn of the century was sitting in the dugout during a game in which he was not playing. The opposing team's batter lofted a foul pop up in the direction of the Brave's dugout. The substitution rule of the time dictated that all the team manager had to do was "notify the umpire" of any change in the line-up. As the ball headed toward him, John jumped up and yelled out, "Kelly now catching for Boston!", stood there, caught the ball, and the batter was declared out. The rule was changed soon after that.

I seriously doubt that the rule will be changed by Wednesday evening, but we may hear something at the Captain's meeting. I suppose a referee could penalize a team for delay of game at their discretion, but I'm not entirely sure.

Hi JMU,

I second Danny's motion:

CRHL, change this rule NOW so that you don't lose the goodwill you've worked so hard at building up over the years. You KNOW this is a problem, and it's your obligation and duty to fix it. Don't let poor sportsmanship have a chance to define your National Championship event!

Hi MD,

All you had to do was copy your message and post it in another place, but I was the person who needed to delete your old message, so I just did both to make it easier for us. /wtimages/icons/cool.gif

Well, it appears that it will be addressed at the captain's meeting, so we will see exactly what is to come of this strategy. In any case, it was an oversight that I am sure will be clearly rectified in the 03-04 rule book.

I hope what was learned from the Premier NCT this season helps to make DI, II, and III NCT that much more exciting. I look forward to seeing fast paced, hard nosed hockey from all across the country. 5:30 Thursday evening can't come fast enough!
