I think I need to make some comments.
First off I am happy to see that XHI is trying to improve it's public image after trying to shut down the entire inline hockey online press. Having said that they have untold amounts of ground to make up. It's funny that Mike Killbreath's name hasn't been brought up during all of this. After all he caused all of the trouble in the first place yet he is still in charge.
If the XHI wants everyone who posts on IHC, NARCh, RHC and IHNet to shut up about the league's credibility they need to do the following things:
1) Refund all the money from the tryout camps in June. None of the players drafted were even contacted about it and the whole matter was handled in a very shabby manner. If players are going to trust these guys again they need to be shown that the league is willing to make amends for their previous mistakes.
2) Mike Killbreath needs to be removed as head of this thing and someone else needs to be brought in who isn't looking to insult everyone before him and threaten to sue everyone in sight. He is proving to be a loose cannon and should be turfed in favor of someone more media, marketing and fan friendly.
3) No mandatory tryouts for players who want to play in the league. That makes people wonder if it's just a cash grab and you are in trouble when you have a policy like that. Players, coaches, media and fans alike have a "wait and see" attitude at the present. You cannot put a gun to someone's head to get them behind you. You need to show the media, players and fans that this is for real and when they see this then they will support it.
4) Get rid of the stupid 3rd quarter hitting rule. This is a goon squad rule plain and simple and it screws up team's rosters. The RHI and MLRH didn't fail because of goonery or because of the rules they used. They failed because of bad management decisions in their final 3 years of opperation.
5) Forget about the 3rd quarter shootout as well. This is a distraction to players, coaches and it alienates fans. Side show stuff won't get more fans in the seats.
6) Go back to basics. NARCh succeeds because they don't cheapen the product. They put on an impressive show and leave the game the way it is.
The bottom line is that the XHI, if they actually begin play have their work cut out for them. If they listen to at least half of my comments they have a shot. If they ignore my warnings like they have from everyone else then they are DOA. I am not slandering anyone in this letter. If the XHI wishes to sue me then they can go ahead but I am expressing my opinion with a level head. I think that the fans have every right to be skeptical right now and you just can't force people to get the message about the sport. You have to show the fans that you are for real and threatening and insulting people isn't the answer.
Fans have the right to free speach in the constitution and you cannot take that away from them. Imagine if Gary Bettman tried to sue everyone who has critisized him? Not only would the NHL be bankrupt from attourney's fees but they wouldn't even have Canadian papers covering them and they would be dead. Enough of my yapping what do you say?
