Keep your eyes peeled for a new line of wheels from Rink Rat hockey. I spoke extensively with their rep Michael Hunt recently, as well as received a test set of wheels, and was very impressed with everything he had to say. First off, let me state that I'm in no way paid or compensated by Rink Rat for this writeup. I just enjoy giving credit where credit is due.
This wheel features a fully-patented proprietary technology that makes the wheel seem to grip to the surface, and propel you in the direction you want to go. I skated on these wheels just a few times, yet I don't seem to have put a dent in them. I'm 5'10, 175 lbs, considered a smaller, faster player. I need a wheel that will allow me to use my speed and agility to beat the opponent. Stopping was great; I could stop hard and fast, as in ice hockey. There was no sliding or anything. The pick up after stopping was equally impressive. Getting to a loose puck in the corner was much easier and I was more confident because I knew I could get in and out faster without fear of anyone getting a step on me.
If you're like me, you're probably saying "Bah, I can do all that stuff with my current top-of-the-line wheel." Trust me, I had my preferred wheel that works too. I took it off my skates in order to try Rink Rat's. I honestly feel I reached a higher level of agility while skating on Rink Rat wheels; I was hooked.
Rink Rat was at the Broomall, PA TORHS America regional this past weekend. They have assembled a new Pro team that is skating in the $75,000 TORHS America Pro Series. The team features a combination of players who have formerly skated with the Tour Mudcats, Bauer Hyper Cyclones, and teams in the Professional Inline Hockey Association and MLRH. They looked pretty damn sharp for their first time playing. Hunt also pointed out a slew of other top Pro teams with players that are wearing the wheels already and who couldn't stop saying good things about them.
Rink Rat should be at many, if not all of the TORHS America regionals, as well as other roller hockey events. They are handing out wheels to players in all age groups to evaluate, as well as giveaways throughout the tournaments (thats how I got mine). I think they set a release date of January for retail sales. Talk to Michael if you get a chance and tell him you read this and want to know more and he'll show you what its all about. These guys definitely have a potentially huge product on their hands.
