Guys made anywhere from $2500 to $6000 per season. Some made up to $10000 if they had under-the-table deals.

Thats all they made? $2,500.00? Did most of them play ice also? How did they maintain themselves?

This only lasted for the down time in between ice seasons. Good way to stay in shape and make a little extra coin.

Don't forget, most players also had their apartments paid for, all utilities except phone and got per diem for road trips, usually $35 per player per day. Some players also got rental cars for the summer and other perks like free golf whenever they wanted. All this for doing nothing but going to practice a few times a week and playing a couple of games a week.

It's a good gig if you can get it.

Hi Benny,

Not to mention the feature articles in magazines like Roller Hockey Magazine and InLine Hockey News, televised games, the interesting (bmx bike acrobatics) and odd (clog dancing) halftime entertainments, and cheerleaders... not in that order. :)

Sincerely,

I used to go to the Philly Bulldogs games rather frequently, and the funniest promotion they did was that you could bring your dog to the game, and you would get seats right behind the glass (like there was anyone at the games to begin with).

Every game at halftime, they'd bring the dogs out and parade them around the floor. And, without fail, every time, someone's dog would take a nice big crap or leave another present somewhere around the floor. :)

That's too funny! How would you like to be an intern for the Bulldogs and you have to put that on your resume: "I cleaned up dog crap at a roller hockey game."

And Rich speaking of feature articles, in either '98 or '99, the Buffalo Wings got Ken Blum on the cover and featured in one of the bi-annual roller hockey inserts of The Hockey News. He was quite excited by it.
