Anyone care to make a wager on whom the to be named later commissioner of the AIHL will be?
I think it's safe to say it will be Flynn.

I hope its Flynn. He's awesome for the sport and has done an incredible amount of work in PIHA in general, not to mention running a great team and putting on a show during home games. But whoever gets that title needs to be someone with experience and someone who knows the direction the league needs to go in.

I'm not saying people can't change. But, I say be very careful. Flynn has burned more bridges than the North did in the Civil War. He has left behind a path of mass destruction and broken promises.

It's my understanding that the "comish" will be someone with no ties to any teams playing in the league. However, team managers (owners) will be voted on a committee to manage decisions concerning the league. I think this is important.
I also understand that in the future, team managers wish to form a players committee so that the players can be heard, and be a part of the decisions made by the league. This sounds like it will be a consolidated effort to allow all involved to determine what direction the league takes. I think this will give investors/managers/players more "bang-for-the-buck". Players/Managers may not always get what they want, but at least they will be heard. This is something roller hockey has needed for a long time.
I have not heard, and I am interested in how they handle discipline in the league. Refs? Managers? Anyone know?

which bridges would that be? and what promises did he break? I would be interested to hear this. As a GM of our team, he's pretty much followed through on everything, and none of us have ever had to pay a dime in the 4 years I have been there. Sure this past season we had an investor that covered everything. But Flynn busts his ass for the team and the league. I dont know what happened with the new league, and to be honest i don't really care. The players (not only the owners) were unhappy with PIHA, is the AIHL the answer? probably not, but it can't be worse and hey the players play where the owners put our teams.
Flynner is a lot of things... he's bad at pong, bad at growing hair and tanning etc. :D but he does bust his ass for our team and whatever league we have been in. Maybe the bridge he burned was with you, maybe not. But if he was such a bad dude, then why were the owners up his butt last season to get things done if he never comes through.
Think about it...
I don't know if he will be the new commish or not, again, i don't really care, but if he was... i'm sure that the season would run pretty smoothly.

Yeah Flynn has been nothing more then a saint when it comes to things getting done. His team always puts on a top notch show, he knows how to respond in a timely fashion to peoples concerns (even when it wasn't even his job to be entertaining such phone calls). I don't know where these "bridges burned" come in but the ONLY problem I have with Flynn is on a sunny day... when the light hits his head just right... damn, get your sun glasses out... :-)

That is exactly what I heard!

I think the commish should not be a team owner, but someone the owners vote on having. Gary Bettman was never a team owner. He worked his way up through the NBA marketing and legal ranks before being voted the NHL Commissioner.
I don't know Flynn, so I am not trying to take anything away from him. I've only heard good things. And if there is no one out there who wants to be commissioner, who doesn't have connections with a specific team, then maybe he would be a good front runner.
I think the only problem in getting a commissioner who is not an owner or related to a certain team, is that they would probably want some pay for their job. If that's the case, the league might have to get an owner to be commissioner for a couple of seasons.

First off, he never burned a bridge with me. Case closed.
I'll throw out two tidbits for my concern. Mike Churchville at the Sportsplex, and the Junior Growl after they won the NARCh Silver Bronze Medal at NARCh Finals. Those two are as good a place to start as any.

Care to pm me and explain how you can throw the Sportsplex in there since you are not a member of our staff and would have no reason to even say that!
Also sign your name when you make an accusation of that nature!

Just because your office is next to his doesn't mean you know anything that he doesn't know.

Everything aside, I've known Flynn for about 12 years. I have played with him, for him and have seen him contribute way more then his fair share to the sport. He took the Growl from scratch and made them a powerhouse along with running a first class organization. His game day operations alone were unmatched for years. I always say that if it wasn't for Flynn and his dedication to the sport, PIHA wouldn't have made it this far. He would make a great commissioner and I'm sure the Growl family would be sorry to see him go.
I haven't laced em up for the PIHA in about a year but I'm always around the scene. I don't have a vote but if i did......
Wise up!
ps -I haven't spoken to Flynn, The AIHL, nor anyone else in reference to this topic, they are just my thoughts!
Thanks,
Drew

I will only give you a one piece hockey stick brek since the pro shop mainstream hockey located at the Sportsplex fixes one piece sticks.

Ive been staying quiet on all things that have been written on this board but as far as Flynn he worked hard for PIHA and did me a HUGE favor personnally just so i could play this past season. He was a great owner also while I played for the Growl, the guy works hard so you should stay off this one regardless of your personnal opinion. Just cause everyone went to him with last seasons problems doesnt mean he is the head of AIHL and the person to point at.

I'll throw a log on the fire here...
Flynn did state in post #67 in the "AIHL Committed Teams UPDATED JULY 6th" that he maybe turning over control of the Growl to different ownership...
Guess that would help justify the criteria some of you have set for being an commissioner (which I agree with).
Think about it, a neutral third party person might be ideal in most scenario's, but who has more experience, good rapport and established relationships with most, if not all of the team owners then Flynn?
I haven't talked to him about it, I'm just recalling something I saw. Just the facts.

Wow away for two days and I come back to all of this. Allow me to set the record straight. I have no current plans to be the commisioner of the AIHL. I am flattered by those who brought it up and I would be honored to under take a project like that, but it is not on my radar. The post that Joe refered to was simply stating that in order for the Growl to continue on, i will most likely have to step aside, like many other owners will have to do, to see their teams continue on.
Thanks to those who had nice things to say. Yokes I did you no favor, I simply interpretted the rules and helped communicate during a dispute.
I am well aware of the two issues that have been raised. The issue with Mike Churchville is well in the past. To this day, Mike and I have a terrific relationship. We had an issue that led up to the Growl leaving Sportsplex, they had there opinion and we had ours, but it is in the past and both parties have moved on. The other issue is a small handful of disgruntled parents whose kids used to play for me. It was an unfortunite situation that they obviously can't let go of. We folded our team because we didnt have enough committed players and I became tired of begging players to play every weekend. A few of the parents bought plane tickets months in advance for a trip to florida and chose to blame the volunteer coach instead of the parents who made commitments and then were not living up to them. I can pretty accurately guess who show no mercy is, but honestly it doesn't matter. Anyone who has accomplished anything in this sport has had conflict somewhere along the line. I spent 3 years at Flyers Skate Zone since leaving Sportsplex and I've had no problems there and I've coached many travel teams both before and after that situation and I lived up to all of my commitments there as well.
I feel no reason to have to explain myself, but I have nothing to be ashamed of with these situations and we all know how I feel and many feel about those who come on here with negative posts and don't sign them.

Whoa there Anthony, don't go anywhere yet...
one of my major assertions for success of any pro program is that the people doing the job must have a high level of both personal and professional integrity.
You must do what you say, even if others don't. I have seen (haven't we all?) a cavalcade of individuals that often do not perform as promised, with some even outright lieing about it from the get-go. We've all seen this, eh?
You don't have the owners with the correct level of integrity "step aside."
To all: Anthony Flynn has the highest level of personal integrity in this sport...period.
