The NCRHA is pleased to announce that it will host a coach's symposium during its Collegiate Roller Hockey Championships in Colorado Springs, CO. It will take place at the Marriot Colorado Springs on Thursday, April 10 at 12:30pm. The Marriott Colorado Springs is the host hotel for the Championships and is located at 5580 Tech Center Drive. The symposium is designed to be an opportunity for the coaches or player representatives from its member schools to come together, share ideas, and discuss a wide variety of issues related to coaching collegiate roller hockey, including how to find and keep a coach for teams that do not currently have one.
Four coaches with extensive and varied backgrounds and a wealth of knowledge will lead a panel discussion. They are Mike DeCarle of Western Carolina, Ron Bielstein of Lindenwood University, Kevin Murphy of Towson University, and Lou Vairo of USA Hockey. The format will feature a brief discussion of the background and experiences of each coach followed by a "pit-session style" sharing of ideas. Among the accomplishments of the panelists are a Division I NCAA Ice Hockey Championship, multiple NCRHA Championships, the building of successful programs at multiple schools, and coaching the 1984 Olympic ice hockey team.
Current coaches from all NCRHA member schools, not just those competing during the Championships, are invited to attend as are player representatives from schools that do not currently have a coach and would like to get ideas. The symposium is free, and persons wishing to attend can register during the captains meeting on Wednesday April 9, or by contacting Rob Coggin by email, dlo@nchra.org. Complimentary food and beverages will be provided.
