I remember going to NARCh Winternationals in 2005 with the ISCA Grizzlies Midget team. That year, Winters were being held in Reno, NV - Elevation 4,500 feet. I can vividly recall our players struggling with their adjustments to the change in elevation. In their first game, they were sucking wind and some guys were ready to hurl, and we're talking 2 minute shifts maximum which we had to adjust accordingly. (And remember - NARCh is 2-12 minute stop time periods at Winternationals and Finals.) By the second game, it seemed like they "found" their lungs and the change in elevation was no longer a big problem.
The 2008 NCRHA Nationals are being held in Colorado Springs, CO - Elevation 6,000 feet. Since most teams will be flying in on Tuesday, and begin pool play on Wednesday, thereby not giving them much time to physically adjust to the change in elevation, I'm curious if teams with 2 lines will find it even harder to adjust to the change in elevation than teams with 3 lines because NCRHA is 3-12 minute stop time periods.
Now mind you - I still think Colorado Springs is a wonderful site for the NCRHA Nationals, I just wonder if teams will pick up their training schedules to try in some small way to adjust to the upcoming change in elevation.
