I know that alot of people were upset that the NHL heritage game did not include the national anthem of the United States, and I am one of them. I served my time in the US ARMY as an Apache mechanic. But as mad as I was about the hole situation, when I was at the all star game last weekend, The NHL more than made up for it. I'm sure you all watched the game on tv, but, I was there, and The Atlanta Boys Choir sang the anthem better than I have ever heard it before in my life. You could not help but to feel it right in your gut. There were actually people about to shed a tear. I am proud to say that I was one of them. So they did it right this time.

(protocol aside) I don't get what the big deal about having served in <insert armed force> has in relation to whether or not the anthem should be played. If it should be played it should be played.

Agreed on people singing anthems properly, the woman who did the anthem at Sydney Olympics is the 'reference' to which all others of our anthem are compared to - she just sings it well, no trills, or crap. I can't stand it when they try to change/pace or anything to add their own touch.

You don't get it? Well lets see if I can set you straight. First the national anthem does not have to be played. It is played as a sign of respect to our country. Second, do you know what this simple soing stands for? It basically says that you as a non saluting scum bag can have any opion that you want, because our fallen americans have given there blood and lives so you can say whats's the big deal about this song. In regards to what all of this has to do with me serving in the US ARMY , well I, like my ancestors am willing to let my blood be spilled where ever in the world, to allow you to say "what's the big deal about this song. I cannot beleive you are not proud to be an american, we have more freedom than anybody else in the world. To say you don't get it is just stupid. I hope that you don't have anybody in your family that has served, because you have just spit on them whith your comment.

Hi Sixpack,

I will leave you with the penultimate comment. This thread has gone as far as it can go.
