GPCIHL Regionals update...

So far, so good...

Except that they're deciding OT elimination games with just a five-minute extra period, and then a freaking shootout.

To have any playoff game decided by a shootout is a cruel joke.

It happened in a first-round B game this morning...I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

I don't know if this is going to be the format for the entire event (or just first round games). I'm not at the rink right now, but I'm going to find out when I go back.

In DIII, St. Charles controls the game and beats Meramec 6-2. No shootouts here.

Meramec had a tough time keeping St. Charles from the front of the net. Menzel is a great goalie, but it's pretty hard to repeatedly stop backdoor stuff plays and second/third/fourth chances.

Blake Propp is definitely the best player in GPCIHL DIII. Incredible balance and agility, and every move is lightning-quick but completely in control.

He's one of those fundamentally flawless, 360-degree players who never gets the puck stolen. He makes the spectacular plays look ridiculously simple. Like all the great players, he's a case-in-point: it all starts with perfect skating fundamentals.

St. Charles wins DIII...

Division II quarterfinals going on right now. Couple of upsets brewing - Missouri State just took a 3-2 lead over SLU late in the second, and Southern Illinois is beating Wash U 3-2 in the final minute of the second.

Couple of barnburners in DII....

Wash U gets a power play goal from Jim Jost with less than 2:00 to play to beat SIUC 4-3.

Missouri State gets a goal with less than :20 left in regulation, then Aaron Schulz scores on the power play in OT to beat SLU 7-6. INCREDIBLE game.

Semifinal matchups are Truman State-Missouri State and UMSL-Wash U.
