Since there are 49 DI teams and 50 DII teams, will that have any bearing on the number of bids given out to teams this season?

We will release the team count when we release the bids after March 3rd/4th, but it will likely better reflect the current breakdown of teams.
The breakdown for this year's CRHC IX will be 20 DI, 20 DII, 8 DIII, and 12 B.

8 DIII teams? So we can continue to completely suck the rest of the season and have a good chance of going?

lol, no there are several reasons for increasing the number of DIII teams. 1) there have been a handful of new D3 teams that have been added to various regions over the past couple of years that are very competitive. 2) most D3 teams see at most 1 other D3 team during the regular season, and it is thus even more difficult to determine who should get bids to nationals. 3) The NCRHA has hopes to see growth in this division and the only way to do that is to showcase it so that other community colleges see what they are doing and see the potential of starting a team and 4) it is important to get beyond the same 4 teams playing each other every year in this division.
We are very hopeful that 8 quality D3 teams will be converging on St. Louis in what should be a very competitive and enjoyable event.

Unless already counted, 10, modesto from the wcrhl has dropped out of the league apparently...so yes, id say your odds of "sucking for the rest of the season" still give you a good shot of making nationals...haha

To get more competitive DIII teams, why not let them go to Nationals their first year in the league? If a student only goes to a DIII school for one year before transfering, why would he go thru the work of starting a new team knowing he has no chance at Nationals? Then if he transfers to a DI or DII college that has no team, he must do it all over again. This approach has the student not allowed to play Nationals untill his third year of college???

NCRHA has no such policy. Plenty of teams have gone in their first year (from personal knowledge, Towson went to the DI Final Four their first year... Suffolk went in DIII).

Mike, Please talk to MCRHL administrators, they told me my DIII Oakland Community College (OCC) team, who are undefeated in the Mid-West, could not go to Nationals in the teams first year in the league????

Mike, Please talk to MCRHA Administrators, I coach the DIII Oakland Community College (OCC) team, which is undefeated all season, and I was told first year teams cannot go to Nationals. Thanks for any support you can provide.
I'm sure he ment first year in their eligibility, meaning after their first year they then are eligibile for nationals the following year, so actually their second year.
(You must play 1 season to enter league then after that you are then eligible for nationals)

You are correct, we played the "B" division. Originally, when I first signed up the team I wanted OCC to be an "A" team, but they would not let us play "A" as a first year team???
So sounds like you answered your own question (not being ignorant) NCRHA most likely has this policy in place to make sure teams stick around and are serious about the league.
So next year you'll be elgiable to attend nationals, and trust me your not missing anything this year (St.Louis).:)

My only cocern is that most of my players will move on to other schools next year and OCC may not be as competitive as it is this year?? Plus many of them are going to Central MI, which does not have a team, so they will be a new team again next year!!

this is NOT a policy or rule of the ncrha, they do allow first year teams to play at nationals...however your region DOSEN'T...this is something you need to take up with your regional league director.
Thats excatly why your region has this policy in place, I dout they want a school to just be around for a year, go to nationals, then never been seen again. Thats not good for your region much less the NCRHA.
If you anyone ever wants this sport to grow at the collegiate level then policies like this need to be in place.
Finish your season strong, try and keep your guys 1 more year and go out and recruit some kids for next year and build up a team not a "1 year wonder", Schools like St.Charles and Lindenwood didn't grow over night.

That is correct. I believe MCRHL has that as a regional policy.

Yes the MCRHL has a policy that first year teams(affiliates) are not eligible for nationals. Once your team is voted in as a full member(there should be a meeting next week at the tournament for this), you'll be eliglbe for nationals. The idea behind the policy is to have teams play for a year, see what it's all about, and learn what you'll have to do to sustain your club for years to come. You guys still have some learning to do and if you were to go to nationals this year, wouldn't be ready or accustomed to the style of play in DIII. To put it blunty, you guys would get SMOKED. The DIII teams from other regions are very good teams and would and do beat most DI and DII teams. If you guys would've played in the Active division with the "A" teams in the MCRHL this year, I'd estimate your record this year to be about 8-12. You guys have good talent, but no discernable system that you play by. It will be important to develop a system to play by if you want to experience success at the regional and national levels. It's these types of things that the MCRHL hopes to address by having teams play as affiliates for a year before they're eligible to become full members.
