Hello,
My name is Matt. I am 15 years old and I am trying to start up some sort of Roller Hockey League in Terrell, TX. We have teams as of now, but no actual league. We have a couple of problems. there are some kids in the area who can't afford to buy the equipment needed to play safely. I am concerned about this because I don't want somebody getting hurt! (Expecialy Goalies!) Any help with that would be appreciated. the other problem... We do have a place to play. It's an old tennis court that was converted into a hockey rink, or hockey court more of. There is no boards or anything like that, just the lines, goal crease, and other basic markings. If you have any way to make our playing surface/area better please let me know. If you can sponsor us, give us equiptment, any Ideas would greatly be appreciated. Pease E-mail me

Well matt, as much as I'd hate to rain on your parade I think I'm gonna have to a little bit. Before I do that I would like to commend you on your efforts in putting together a league, we can never have enough hockey!

Now to what needs to be said. Great you have people to play, but there is a lot more involved in putting together a league. Your first problem is where you will be playing, an out door rink is great, but boards, flooring, changerooms, al this needs to be taken in to account, and it can all be very costly!

Next is the actual costs of everything else, refs, uniforms, floor time, all these things amount to HUGE costs, believe me, I put together a tournament team this year, and our uniforms alone almost cost $2000, but Hyper paid for the jersey's. Refs are also a huge cost. I reffed inline this year, and I was getting paid 17$ a game, and with 2 refs, and however many games yoiu are going to have, it is also a large cost.

Next thing, asking sporsors for free equipment for the league, I wouldn't try that. Over the years I have had more success with maming a deal with the sponsor, and then a sports stroe, where we can make an arangement that the team will get their equipment at cost instead of market price which usally is about a 50% savings.

So, keep trying, but keep these things in consideration! I hope your league makes it!

Best of Luck!

Matt there are huge programs across the country that dont get sponsors. You barking up the wrong tree. Manufactures are hit everyday for product and money they are sick of it(although they brought it upon themselves) thats another topic. You have many local businesses that set aside funds for this type of thing. You should start by approaching them. They have a vested interest in the community and are more apt to help. Once you get the funds manufactures will be more than happy to help out.

If you are going to go for Coroprate sponsors just phone them up, tell them all about what you're trying to achieve, and you have to have a way to advertise them...broshure, banners...that sort of stuff!
Hope that helps!
