Knowing this is a roller forum.... I just have to say that I was very happy to be sitting on the couch last nite watching the Leafs vs Senators. I definately think the rule changes enacted this year have livened up the game. As an added bennie, getting to watch the first NHL game decided by a shootout was pretty cool too.

Of course, my wife, who is a card carrying member of the Ty (I didn't do Nothin'!) Domi goon squad, isn't real pleased with the shootout as Ottawa won the game that way ;)

I think the 2 biggest improvements are the larger offensive zone and going to 2 lines vice 3. That long breakway pass keeps you on your toes definately.

I hope the rest of the season has that same feel.

I liked most of the rule changes too. Don't like the one that restricts the goalie movement. There was always the "breath holding" situation of will the player just runover the goalie or will the goalie try to trip/slash/interfere with the player as they bump shoulders and "act" like they were trying to miss each other 20 ft from the goal along the boards. Now the goalie can't even attempt it. Ty Domi really, Ben? I can't believe the Rangers pulled out a win. I'm just glad they're all playing again!

Add me to the list of those with an extra bounce in my step now that the NHL's back!!! Talk about hockey heaven! Between "Center Ice", Sports Pack, and OLN, I had access to all 15 games!!! Whew. Almost better than...oops... caught myself Richard.

Another minor rule change I like seeing is the delay of game now called on the guy that shoots the puck over the glass "accidentally" - never thought it was fair for goalies to get called for it but noone else.

But, I gotta say, isn't it great to see guys being able to skate around without being hooked, clutched, grabbed, and otherwise tied up?

Could be quite the season... My dream is a Flyers/Sharks finals... then I could die happy!!!
