Hey all... I was wondering how the lighting is where you play. Our rink is kinda dark as the owner only has 40watt fluor. bulbs up all over the ceiling.(which is high up) Granted he has about 36 4bulb fixtures but its still dark and hard to follow the puck. So... what type of lighting is the best to light it up ?? What lighting configurations are out there that ya'll are use to? I play in the BRUHA(Baton Rouge United Hockey Assoc.) league and run our small website(http://nav.to/bruhahockey) and have taken pictures inside the rink and as you can see they came out really dark. Any help? email at bruha_hockey@fcmail.com THANX! j-bo

Well..

The outdoor rink has 8 or 10 of those huge ass floodlights, like for a football field or tennis courts...they work pretty well ;)

One indoor rink has florescent(sp?) lights, like an office building...it has a fairly low ceiling, as its a roller rink...the other has the huge floodlights like youd find in a gym or something....again, they both work well.

I'm interested in learning more about "those huge ass floodlights".

Our MSU team used to play at the Apple SportsPlex, which was an amazing facility. It went out of business in the spring, and now our team is going to play in a hundred-year old building that used to be the ice arena on campus 30-yrs ago. The school is talking about putting in sport court, but it's very poorly lit.

We might be looking to buy some of "those huge ass floodlights", but I'd like to have a bit more technical name to search by.

Any help???

Hey guys

The rink I work at in Michigan uses the 25 yr old light fixtures that were used when it was a ice rink, but to update it they installed Mercury halide blubs. WOW this made a big difference. Granted we also have a white flight deck to play on but these new lights are not as yellow/orange looking as some ours are a bright white. Our bulbs are just housed in the typical open buld fixture, with a steel reflector sheild around the out side to direct the light down.

Now one of the other rinks i played at uses the highschool gym style lights with new halide bulbs and it is real nice to skate there, plus the ceiling is high so all the light blends together and does not act as spot lights.

Hope this helps

Al-

Apple went out of business, eh? Too bad...that was a nice facility...the nicest i played in when i played for College of DuPage 2 years ago. I really dont know the technical name for them...they are the kind of large lights found in every gym ive ever been in. They are about 2-3 feet across, and looking directly at them is generally NOT a good idea. Wish i could be more help.
