I am in the market for a new shaft and I am looking at the Easton Z-Bubble Grip shaft. I have been using the Easton Cyclone for the past 3 years, but I am going to just use those for outdoor now and buy two new game sticks.

My only question is what flex should I get? 85 or 100?

I am a defensmen and I take a good number of slapshots. My Cyclones are 95 Flex and I have had pretty good performance from that, but I was thinking about going down to the 85 flex to see if it helps my shot, but I am concerned that 85 may be too weak for my size, weight and style of play. I am 6'1" 210, has anyone used the 85 flex that is about my size or bigger? And if so...what was your feeling about the 85 Flex? Just right, too much flex?

Thanks!

I am 6'1 220, so I am pretty much around your size. I play with an 85 flex and I love it. It seems to work perfect for me. I also play D and take a fair number slapshots. But it all comes down to what you are comfortable with. I personally think 85 flex is a good way to go...

Thanks, I am just concerned that the 85 Flex would be too whippy for me. Did you have an adjustment period when you first started using the 85 Flex, did it feel weird or weak at first? I appreciate the input! :-)

No problem at all bro...

it actually only took a few shots to get adjusted. I would say a practice or two with it and you should be good to go.

Thanks, I think I will go ahead and give it a try. I use the Easton Hybrid blades with the Modano curve. I used to use the Focus Flex, but I broke 3 of them in 2 games, all in the same spot. The center of the blade. I gave up spending that kind of $$$ and I actually like the feel of the Hybrids better on slapshots. I tried the Lidstrom curve...for all of one warm up...it is terrible, at least for me. The Mo curve is not strong on long slapshots, but mid range it is fine. I wish there was a curve that was as easy to use as the Modano, but better on long slapshots.

Try Iggy's curve...

I use Mo's curve too. I can keep my shots low from far away for tips and it makes for great wrist and snap shots when I get in close.

I wonder who has Jeromes curve? CCM maybe, I will have to hunt for that one OnLine. You were referring to Iginla...right? Hehe! Thanks! I have been wanting to experiment with another curve! :-)

Easton has them...

Yeah I was talking about Iginla...

I am pretty sure I will be making the switch before JO's because my Mo blade is broken...

I am going to take a look at one before I buy it. I am not crazy about a square toe.

I'm 5'9" 170, and I snapped my 85 Z-Bubble the first day i got it, so I would recommend the 100 for you.

Thanks, but I tried the 85 and I could tell right away that it was way too weak for my size. I was able to exchange it for a 100 and it is perfect. I tried to experiment a little, but I should have payed more attention to basic physics! Hehe! ;-)
