Okay, gang, we're hanging out the shingle:

Today, we formally announce the opportunity for interested players to join the 2004 version of the Nations-Tobin Polar Bears' all-girls, 17&under inline hockey team. Girls from anywhere in the world may play, but please see below regarding attendance at the mandatory training camp.

This team is organized and trained to participate specifically in the USA Hockey Inline Youth National Championship tournament, Wednesday,July 28 to Saturday, July 31, 2004, at The Cooler hockey facility, Alpharetta, Georgia (northwest suburb of Atlanta).

A girl must be born between 1986 and 1991 to be eligible to participate. An ability to learn a simple tactical system of play, a desire to understand the underlying principles of the game, and a willingness to play your hardest for yourself and your teammates are also three criteria for success on the Polar Bears.

All players must attend the Saturday/Sunday, day-and-a-half training camp in El Paso, Texas, at the brand new Nations-Tobin Municipal Inline Hockey Center, July 3-4, 2004.

Each player will be required to pay a $75 player fee toward the team tournament entry. Each player will be responsible for travel expenses to El Paso (for training camp) and Alpharetta for the tournament. Each player will receive her own set of white/navy Polar Bear uniform sweaters with custom numerals.

We have room for two skaters and a goalkeeper. You do not need to be an elite level player. You must really want to play, and love the inline game as much as we do,,,

Please email coach Danny at dguard@elp.rr.com, for a player information set (although all the basic information is in this post).

Hope to see everybody out on the blue floor this summer...

Send money..we will come, on our way to St. Louis, Cincinnati, then Lake Placid if any of the girls are chosen. I think if I won the lotto i still couldn't afford all this stuff. I just hope the kid appreciates all the $$$$ I'm throwing out for her.

...I seem to recall somewhere back on the message board that you mentioned you play for the Riot. We have followed the L.A. Riot, now the Tour Riot, for a number of years, since the USAHIL nationals at the Sands Expo center in Las Vegas in September, 1997. That year the Riot finished the round robin section of the tournament in 8th place, made the 1st division, and drew the Mission Betty's, who had both Manon Rheaume and Haley Wickenheiser playing for them.

It has been our privilege to watch the Riot develop their program into one of the premier women's inline hockey teams in the world over the past several years.

Some day, the much younger players on the P'Bears hope to achieve the same level of success...
