just a note, my stubbies now have over 800 hours on 'em, and there is still no discernible wear on the inside of the boot...
they are certainly heavier than any elite model skate, but for those of us, non-elite players, where speed is not a factor, they are great...
We hope that Hockey Giant (as the distributor) and/or the present Gear company (as the manufacturer) comes out with this line of products once again in the coming year...
We highly recommend them...

since our good buddy Richard is obviously going to be no help on this one...
The Gear brand hockey company was an early inline hockey equipment developer and manufacturer in the mid/late '90's. The company has gone out of business, changed hands, changed management and/or ownership a couple of times, and is currently producing skates, pants, and gloves that Hockey Giant is marketing as a "generic house brand."
As you know, most of the top skate manufacturing companies make 4-5 levels of skates each year, and price 'em from about $129-$599 or so between the various models. They try to hit a skate for every price range.
Last year, these Gear skates came out: "Varsities," "Road Hogs," "Stubbbies," and "Big Daddies"...they are chunky, heavy, but seemingly well made, and hyper-cheap!
I paid (get this) $39.00 for my Stubbies, put $20 inserts into 'em, and have been rolling ever since. They are heavy, the wheels/axles do not even spin freely, but, hey, for my very intermediate level of play, they work great, and now durability seems to be a high factor as well...
as long as high-end performance is not the issue for you, I recommend them to you...the above original post is hopeful that Hockey Giant will again market these skates this new hockey year, as they seem to have sold out of 'em last year with no trouble...
