Dear Coastal Cup Families:
A fellow hockey family needs our help. Michael Lewandowski, a 12 year old who plays hockey at the same rink I do in Charleston, is battling a form of brain cancer. He is a good kid - I've coached him. He has a good father - I've played with and against him in our adult league.
Hockey is a huge part of this family's life, as it is all of ours. See if this sounds familiar... Michael plays in the house league. He plays on the Pee Wee travel team. His younger brother plays house and travel. His father coaches both house and travel. His father plays in the over 35 league. They are at the rink 2-3-4 nights a week for games and practices. They travel out of town a couple of times a month for travel games and tournaments. In short, they are the definition of a hockey family.
This could be your family, it could be my family, it could be any one of our families.
The Lewandowski family is incurring some major bills for medical and travel expenses. Michael is getting his treatment at Sloan Ketterling in New York. The Lewandowski's are having to travel back and forth on a regular basis.
On June 20, a bunch of us old-timer hacks and duffers are holding a golf tournament to benefit the Lewandowski family. All proceeds will be given to them to pay their medical and travel expenses. Our goal is to raise $7500. Since most of you are not in the Charleston area, its probably not feasible for you to come to the golf tournament.
But we will take your donations! I know it sounds crazy and optimistic, but if 500 people that receive this email each donate $10 to Michael's cause (and there are over 750 Coastal Cup supporters receiving this email), we will have raised $5000 just from the Coastal Cup community, in addition to what we can raise from the tourney itself. $10 is what you'll spend on a lunch this week... $10 is about how much your kid spends in Gatorade at each tournament... $10 is 1/15 the cost of that new Easton Synergy that he HAD TO HAVE... $10 isn't much.
So $10 is the suggested donation. Obviously, you can give more, you can give less. Every single dollar counts.
I know you don't know this kid and you don't know his family, but anyone of us could be facing this same situation. Please help.
We are also looking for in-kind donations that we can use as raffle/auction items at the golf tournament. If you or anyone you know might have some sort of merchandise, gift certificate, etc that can be donated to the golf tourney, please contact me. I've already had one Coastal Cup father donate almost $200 worth of Atlanta Braves tickets.
At the conclusion of the tournament, I will update you again on how much money and donations the Coastal Cup community raised.
An account has been established for the Lewandowskis at a local Charleston bank. Please make checks out to "Michael Lewandowski Fund" and send them to me at:

P.S. If you're going to donate, please do it right now. Its easy to file this email, tell yourself you'll do it later and then forget all about it. Do it now while you're thinking about it. Thanks!
Thanks!
