RE: IHC's Wild Wheel Deal
I've never bought or used Cyko wheels - How are they? How well do they last? Anyone ever used 'em? I'd love to support IHC but would like a little more info...

I used some about four years ago and were not too impressed, they seemed kind of cheap. But maybe they've improved the quality of them, I know a friend who uses them now and he says they are pretty good, but not the greatest.

I've used CYKO wheels once and they weren't too bad, however I've never used the ones that Rich has posted.

CYKO wheels are probably one of the few companies that will guarantee their wheels on workmanship. I am offerring an inexpensive wheel that is suppose to compare to the Labeda wheel. Does it compare? I do not know . I have some being shipped out to some members of IHC for a test. The test results will be posted for all members to see. I will seee how they work Saturday in the Hockey Dome in Cinn. ,Ohio.

I think they are $38 for a set of 8. Go to IHC's homepage, theres a news story about it.

Does Cyko have a website? I like to read up and learn about new products, there are about 50 guys in my program, so I try to find good deals and team discounts whenever I can, new companies seem to be the most willing to work with us.

Okay... I am kind of new to roller hockey. I know alot about it, and I'm learning fast, but this one boggles my mind a bit. The Cyko wheels are listed at 74A for indoor, and 74A for outdoor. Is the composition of the outdoor wheels different allowing them to wear differently? My thinking is that a softer wheel would help you grip better indoors, but outdoors you'd want a harder wheel for better wear.
Anybody care to set the record straight for me?
Gary
Your basic assumption is the same one I would make, but I know that durometer is only a part of the story. Have used many different "low durometer" wheels over the years in the constant search for grip. Some worked and some didn't although the official durometers were the same. Durometer is only a measure of material deflection under load in one plane or other, material coefficient of friction and toughness are not necessarily dependant on durometer.

I have made a similar observation. I picked up a set of Hyper Trinity wheels last semester, and I hated them from the day I put them on. This might be because I am a pretty big guy... almost 200 lbs. But compared to my old Milenniums, I felt horrible. I'm running Red Star Snipers now, and I have generally had success with them. I guess it all depends on the person.

Okay, whoever was betting a week ago that the Ducks would sweep is really the guy that I want to go to Vegas with,
but,
I'm betting here that the listing of the 74A for the outdoor was an inadvertant typo, and the outdoor durometer is more like 82A, eh?

Its a very real possibility.
Gary
Yes no doubt - my son is the opposite - he much prefers the new Trinities to the Milleniums although when they first came out the Milleniums were his wheels of choce. Also he is only about 155 lbs. You did get the new Trinities I hope, not a "bargain" on the old ones which were still available in lots of pro shops and were at best mediocre.

Yes the old trinities are sub par at best, not worth the kind of money I first spent on them, espicially compared to the newer version.

Hi Gary,
My mistake!
The Cyko Liquid Fire is an 83A-durometer outdoor wheel. The caption for the photo is correct, but there's a typo in the main article. I'll fix it when I get home from my "real" job tonight. lol.
Thanks for the heads up!

I picked up the new trinities online because after working all summer, I had some extra cash to throw around.
It could have been a bad set, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

The only way we could cut any more cost would be a large qty. and cut shipping costs. Email me at

Gary, did they gum up on you or chunk? The older the urethane the higher chance of chunking. Beware of alot of the real low price wheels on e-bay.
JMUDukes26
04-17-2003, 07:53 PM
No, in terms of reliability, the wheel was very solid. After about 12 games, the wheels were showing wear, but had not cracked or chunked at all. I just felt like they were a bit slippery. They were difficult to stop on from the moment they were new.
I was also disappointed that my brand new wheels rubbed against each other for the first few minutes I was skating on them. At that kind of price, I expect a pretty precision built product.

The old trinities dont compare to the newer ones, but if they were on sale really cheap I probably still pick up a pair ;-)

Richard...No one has purchased any as of yet...I do have a test being run by some members of IHC . One set of Venom wheels seem to be doing great. The Blue Ice will get their test in a tournament play. I had some members of my team use them and they like the way they gripped. Mike

I have used "the little yellow guys," the Cyko "Venoms" for about 20 hours on the floor now. I specifically asked Mike to send me the 76A's, as I cannot stop as proficiently on the softer 74A's (the little blue guys).
I will report that I am an intermediate level skater, 200 lbs. Played four games in Sunday tournament. Wheels are as good or better than any I have ever used. I gauge the usefulness by my stopping ability, and the Venoms were first rate. I even made a couple of critical, (for me, the weak) right foot stops a whole bunch better than I usually do, which helped in our team's success.
I have no instrument tests to back this up, but I did like the (it seemed to me) grippyness that enabled me to play effective defense vs. the most agile opponent in the tournament for the final 6 minutes of the Bronze Medal game. I could shift between edges and accelerate very well, in addition to the stopping in between direction changes.
So, okay, keep in mind that this is a masters/seniors age player, intermediate level...I will certainly recommend these wheels to anybody who is looking for the performance parameters I have described here...
We have an elite 19 year old, and an advanced-level 12 year old going to test the little blue guys next week. We will gladly publish results here...
Some pricing information might be in order...(over to you, Mike)...

Danny, Thanks for the report , I also find these wheels to be superior for outdoors on hot ashphalt .
The Venoms come in all sizes and durometers of the yellow 76A,the red 80A,and the blue 84A.
I will deliver these to anyones house in the USA for $36.00 with $5.00 dollars going to Inline Hockey Central , to help support the site. Also with a higher quantity of wheels, I can cut costs of shipping so buy with a team or a friend . Every eight wheels Inline Hockey Central will get five dollars.
Please order I guarantee you will like the feel of CYKO wheels, also the wheels will be guaranteed for any type of flaws.
Thanks.....Mike

OK Rich-
Time to start jumping!!! Ordered a set yesterday - will let all of you know the "test" results.
And...since I think $38 is an incredibly low price and since I also think IHC is an incredibly great site, I've sent an even $40 - two extra dollars to IHC. I invite anyone else that places an order to do the same (or more!) Every dollar helps, right Rich?

Hi Joy,
Thanks a lot. I really do appreciate your support, and I hope that you will find the wheels completely satisfactory.
Yes, every dollar does help, certainly. I don't know if people have the mistaken impression that I'm making a lot of money on this site or not, but the answer is...
No.
LOL.
