View Full Version : pomona's props
How come nobody is talking about pomona's hard fought trip to the top? They have played with 7 skaters all year and did so throughout nationals. The leading scorer in the entire tournament, tom wiebe, played the semi final and final game with a leg he could barely skate on and still managed to score all 4 goals against florida. I don't know many people posting that predicted pomona to win. they were so tired they could barely celebrate. have you seen the winning team photo, damn they look tired. i think they need more props on the board, but instead everyone is talking about timeouts and uniforms.

Oh, yeah. Someone won the DI title this year, didn't they?
:) Congrats Pomona. Between excellent goaltending and the return of the Wiebe Show for yet another year, you guys completely deserve it!

I give Pomona props twice, once for being the best roller hockey team in the nation, and the 2nd, for doing it all with no funding. That shows a lot of heart and dedication to your program, and I commend you for that. I hope you serve as ambassadors for the sport, and for CRHL as National Champs, good luck to you!

I was watching Pomona's game against U Texas late Saturday afternoon. It was an elimination game and in the middle of the second quarter, with Pomona up 4 to 2, there was a fight for a loose puck near the red line. The Texas player chips the puck to a teammate breaking into the Pomona zone. Everyone in the stands sees a Texas breakaway on the Pomona goalie, but out of nowhere streaks #3 for Pomona, Nolan Dyo. He overtakes the Texas player, steals the puck from him, circles behind his own net and heads back up the floor going the other way. He skates the length of the floor, dancing around two Texas attempts at poke checks, gets to within 10 feet of the Texas goalie and blasts a shot into the net. It was an AMAZING individual effort on Dyo's part. I've seen a lot of roller hockey, but I was thoroughly impressed by that play. I saw Pomona play a few times while I was there and I was not surprised to see them in the Final or win it all.

Congrats to my boys Cal Poly Pomona. Wiebe Show of course. How about "Stephen Campbell for President!", as a Pomona fan yelled out just after the national anthem before the final. Campbell scored 2 game winning goals to get Pomona into the finals.
Also, for you Pomona guys, here's a congrats from your ex-league director:
"Congratulations on your first National Championship. Let all of the guys from Pomona know that I'm proud of them.
Marshall (Dickerson)"
you spoke to marshall bren? man, how is that guy. i can't believe we got props from him. that's good stuff. i think i speak on behalf of all the rest of the pomona guys (even though i am techinically and ex-pomona guy) when i say that we would not be anywhere without marshall, not to mention his equally great replacement. Pomona could not have won without the support of the WCRHL.

Congradulations to Ponoma from the UNLV Rollin Rebel predident. Hopefully we will play you this upcoming season during one of our exhibition games so we can get reinstated for the 2004-05 season. Their win is a good thing for the WCRHL.
