View Full Version : Converting T-Flex shaft for use with regular blade

So last year I decided to pick up a nice composite-shaft-dealie, and I came across a pretty good deal involving an Easton shaft with a blade included for about Cdn$70.00. What I didn't realize at the time (I was something of a hockey/inline-equipment newbie last year) was that it was one of them T-Flex shafts that only accepts T-Flex blades. I'm very happy with the weight/flex/quality of the shaft, and despite the fact that T-Flex blades are becoming hard to find (at least, up where I am in Canada) I'm not about to go out and buy another "normal" shaft at the moment.

I'm wondering, though, if it'd be possible to "convert" the shaft for use with normal blades. I haven't really looked into this yet, but wouldn't it be possible to just "flip" the shaft end-over-end...? More specifically, I realize that the "blade-end" of the shaft is tapered on the inside (which is why it requires the correspondingly-tapered blade), but is the "butt-end" of the shaft also tapered? If it's not, I'm thinking of just getting a new wooden end-cap (or use the existing one) and sand/whittle down the part that's glued into the shaft so that it'll actually fit into the opposite, tapered end of the shaft. That way, I'll then be able to put normal blades into the other end (the end that would normally be the "butt-end" of the shaft).
Phew... heh, that's probably a very long-winded explanation for what I was trying to say! :-)

Anyway, has anyone had any success in doing this?

I've never heard of anyone trying this stunt. Do yourself a favor and buy a few of these... http://www.hockeyking.net/eastontflexsr.html
I'm afraid you'll end up ruining your shaft if you try and screw around with it.

I know someone who uses a T-flex shaft w/ a regular Easton Ultra ABS Blade.

From what i've heard he got it from some guy who broke it near the blade end of the shaft. What he did was just to saw off the part that broke and just inserted an Ultra ABS blade.

I don't know if that'll work and by no means am I suggesting you do it. Am just saying that I've seen it. Oh and he's not that tall as well =)

Easton is coming out with another version of the T-flex shafts. If you can be patient for a few more weeks or so they will be in pro shops. They realized that alot of people liked the feel of the T-Flex and decided to start using them again.

I have a Mission flyweight that has the tapered ends like a T-Flex so I'll suggest just getting some new blades

They are wood ether blades and you can get 3/$25 which is a pretty good deal. But wouldnt that mess the kickpoint of the shaft up if you flipped the stick?
hope this helps you out :-)

Why not just get a graphite tflex blade? It's a really great blade...

Also, easton is not reissuing the tflex blade... the new blade is for the synthesis. It will technically fit in a tflex but the kickpoint is really low on the synthesis and the hosel is really short (only about 4 inches) which would really throw the tflex off...

well then yet again the Easton rep lied to me because I was told they were reissuing the shaft and blades. Not A big surprise I. Not the first time they have told me something that isn't going to happen.. Thank yo for clearing tha up cause now I am going to have a whole lot of people here oissed at Easton because I am not taking the blame for their reps lies...

Unlesss you're playing outdoors, just get another tapered blade. There are still a bunch of websites that sell T-Flex blades, or you could call Hockeyking.net and order an Innovative tapered graphite blade, which I've heard has better feel than even the Z-Carbon.
