Today they took out the windows from the bar that let you watch the games and they put sheet rock there so the bar is seperate from the rink. They also gutted a good portion of the bar. I wish I knew what they where thinking because that was one of the few reasons some of us drank at the bar was so we could drink beer and watch the games. I hate to say this but we may not have a roller rink in Las Vegas in the future unless another one gets started. I am working on getting one that will be run by the county or city. I alsofound out recently that other people tried in the past and they said it was to big of a risk(they where worried about the liabilities) yet they can build skate park at the city parks. makes absolutley no sense to me buts thats me.
sorry but i had to vent a little. at least i did it peacefully.

the two milion dollar landlord liability policy issued by USAHIL put even the City Attorney at ease in El Paso...

Thats a good idea. That was an idea that crossed my mind but i didn't know that they also had landlord insurance. I thought they only had insurance for the players. I will mention that when i talk to them.

Wow, they killed the bar windows? What a shame, that will REALLY kill the atmosphere there for next year's Winternationals....... or even USAHIL this September. Hey, at least there's still the casinos =)

That's quite shocking. Beers aside, I enjoyed the ability to watch the games in a semblance of comfort without having small children running around underfoot, and players' moms and dads screaming in my ear.
What a bummer. (Those rock-hard spectator seats in the stands weren't much fun either.)
Build that rink you're talking about, brother! /wtimages/icons/cool.gif

Richard you are not Hulk Hogan brother. Hopefully I will get things going by next year. Maybe someone will even beat me to it. It is stupid espically when we have tournaments and how many of the adult players go to the bar. There are still a couple of other bars in the area. I will tell you where they are if you ask me around tournament time. For the new rink I am going to mention that I am restarting UNLV roller hockey and see if that helps make up their minds. Hope to see you all here for USAHIL adult cup and Winternationals.
John
They think they are going to attract a better paying clientele?
Figured all those poor student athletes nursing one beer while watching the game and taking up space lol (when did I last see student athletes "nursing" one beer???). Well with the amount of time you had to wait to get served in there the year I was there, there was little argument for lack of demand on the bar waitresses. Maybe too many fights over the games lol.

I remember the first time I was going to the USAHIL Cup..after perusing the schedule on the web site, the first thought that hit me was, "Gee, our first game is over at 11:00 p.m...now where will we be able to go at that late hour? What would possibly be open?"
"Oh, yeah we'll be in Vegas..."

That is an advantage of Las Vegas its a 24 hour town. I think what helped kill the bar was that the food there was terrible. If they had another food place that had good food they would have had more people up there.

That really bites. We always enjoyed watching the other games, regardless of the division, when we were there to play in the TopCat tourney's. Guess that Patty is going to have to find someplace else to host these.

Yeah, but regardless of how long it took to get a beer, the bartender at Winternats this year was waaaay hot (at least as I recall). I also recall some lots of flirtation among some notable members of our inline community, and a table of D1 players smoking about 9 packs of cigarettes after being eliminated from the tournament.

Maybe that's why it took so long lol - sounds like a new BUD Lite commercial as an answer to Heineken's.

yeah I was going to comment on that, but it still makes my head spin a bit, what a great kid... so tragic, so dearly missed.
