Hi Folks,
Sorry, but I find more people read my posts when I don't use a subject title that reflects what I'm talking about. LOL.
I would like to know if other readers are noticing the same problem I'm noticing with the IHC Message Boards: I find myself reading "new" messages that I've already read.
If anyone else is experiencing the same problem, I will talk to Burlee.com about fixing that problem, as well as the one they've ignored for months -- the IHC Links section that isn't working.
In fact, you might be able to help me out here. If you're unhappy with Message Board or Links problems, please e-mail Burlee.com at the following address, and ask (politely) that they finally solve them. Thank you!

Hey Rich,
I have not experienced any problems like you described.

I only see that problem if I use the "back" button to return to the main message board page from within a particular forum. If I go back directly to "main Index", or a specific forum or "general discusssion", it clears.

Hi Graham
I have visited several of the "Links" pages and tested a number of onward connections and each of them worked as expected.
Also the other reported problem of previously read items having been re-flagged as 'new', has not been seen by myself.
My only recent problem was experienced about 48 hours back (time now 19.30 GMT/ZULU) when the whole network was so slow that I gave up and came back the following morning.
Early evening here in the UK presumably spans several daylight time zones on your side of the pond.

Uhh, not to go off-topic here or anything (hehe), but please *please* *PLEASE* consider implementing a better message-board program, such as phpBB (http://www.phpbb.com/).
I for one would certainly spend a lot more time reading and posting here if the forum software was improved.
Thanks.

Hi Geoff,
I've had several different message boards on IHC, and this one is the best by far, so far. I don't have the time nor inclination RIGHT NOW to research the system you're talking about, so can you tell me what is so great about it? Thanks! /wtimages/icons/cool.gif

Hi MD,
Yeah, that changed without my knowledge, too. It takes some getting used to, but it's not a huge problem, unless you're old like me...

Hi TimeKeeper,
All of a sudden, I'm getting Links requests from readers again, so maybe Burlee.com responded to my angry phone call and did something without telling me. /wtimages/icons/shocked.gif

Hi John,
Thanks for your message. I appreciate it. You're right! Apparently, Burlee.com has repaired the Links section problem (after three months of e-mails) without telling me. I won't look a gift horse in the mouth. LOL

I think that happens occasionally when IHC's Web hosting company updates its site. Should happen very rarely. Thanks for the heads up, though.

Hi Folks,
Apparently, Burlee.com has repaired some of the problems I was noticing without alerting me. No need to bug them for now. Thanks for all your help!

Hey Richard... sorry for the delay in responding...
You know, now that I think about it, I guess the current message-board system here isn't really all that much worse, functionality-wise, than other boards such as phpBB. I think I'm looking at this more from an esthetic and "ease-of-use" perspective, though, and I don't particularly find the current message-board system here very 'pleasurable' to use (for lack of a better term).
One of the main things that seems to be lacking currently is an easy way to quote messages that you're replying to, which makes following different discussion-tangents in the same thread a little confusing. Also, other message-board systems have *very* easy ways to add text formatting to messages, in the same sort of ways that a program like MS Word does (ie: just click a button for bold text).
But I suppose it's primarily the look of this particular system that I don't care for, and as strange as it may seem, I tend to feel more compelled to post stuff on message-board systems that just *look* nice and are comfortable to work with.
Anyway, just my two cents... if you wanna see phpBB in action, you could just mess around with the phpBB Community forum, at http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/
Although your comments are I'm sure well informed and beneficially intended, for the disorganized of thought like myself, - it is with great relief that I can respond without looking back at the actual quote to limit my flights of fancy [toung]

hey geoffrey,
just outta curiosity, most computers dont type by themselves, and unless youre in your own little world, then im sure the pleasure principle wont be there....that is unless you go out and buy the "knight rider" computer, where it does everything for you, like writing papers, talkin trash on IHC, or whatever the case is. but from my own opinion and the voices of others, i think IHC is the best forum for us kool inline hockey players. so why bash it....i think its great, and will forever be great...every sites gonna have its glitch, so leave us nice people alone, and go find your "knight rider" computer. cuz when you find it, please please, let us all know...wed love to buy one.

Woah there, bonesy... no need to get offensive...
Just stating my opinion about the boards. Of course I have no complaints whatsoever about the *content* of the boards (it's certainly been very helpful to me on a number of occasions!)... I definitely enjoy lurking here and posting every once in a while. I was just commenting on the message-board software itself.

Hi Geoff,
Don't sweat it. IHC's readers are mighty passionate... sometimes overly so. /wtimages/icons/cool.gif
