I was just wondering, not that it realy matters now, why kahre, edmondson and some of the other guys who played in the past didn't play this year. I've heard different things but I just wanted to know what the real reason was.

Although the general consent is that the players that are playing for Lindenwood University are getting a free ride in the classroom, there are strict standards for are student-athletes. Using the names that you had mentioned earlier, Chris Kahre was put on academic suspension and decided he needed to take some time off of school. He is leaving the door open to return next semester to play ice hockey here. Matt Edmondson was put on academic suspension and after a good first semester he was allowed to return playing, but for the JV team, becuase the coaching staff wanted him to make more of a commitment to the classroom. There are other cases of players this year being suspended from practicing or games for missing classes during the week. I'm not going to say the education at Lindenwood University is that of a Harvard, but we are a four-year accredited university and we feel when our student-athletes grauate from our university they will be more than ready to move forwad in their lives in a positive direction. I know that everyone thinks we have a win at all cost attitude, but when the top player in the country, Chris Kahre is not allowed to play because of team rules and arguably the top defensemen, Matt Edmondson, is not allowed to play. Both of them would have been eligible to play by CRHL standards, but our actions clearly show our commitment to education first. Our kids work very hard on the rink and harder in the classroom, we expect alot out of our guys, and I think they deserve better than to be slammed on the internet saying they are getting a free pass or settling for less of an education.

Most anyone can post a d average in basket weaving. That's why the "degrees" that college football players and basketball players have no merit whatsoever.

As for your best player getting suspended, if you do it when the games matter then I will be impressed but convieniently lifting suspensions is an old tactic NCAA football teams have long used to avoid getting put on probation. Drop the freebies and money awards and we will see how many people want to play for you. Things will finally be evened out if that were to happen. (You won't get too many people outside of your region, bet on it.)

"there are strict standards for are student-athletes."

perhaps you were looking for something along the following lines: "there are strict standards for OUR student-athletes"

It really doesn't support your point very well when you use bad grammar to support the academic intergrity of your University.

I dont think it's fair of anyone to criticize the quality of the education at Lindenwood or compare it to another school unless they have attended both. Nor do I think that the academic requirements are necessarily tougher or mor relaxed at Lindenwood. I believe the recruiting advantage they enjoyed last year and maybe more than just last year, was from offering a form of financial subsidy by way of some grants to some or all of their student athletes. As I am not party to the particulars of the amounts or extent of these and am dealing on what is effectively hearsay information - I am treading lightly. I hope it is true!! I also hope that the program iniated at Lindenwood ignites similar programs at other Universities.

If the difference in performance by Lindenwood was a result of being able to A) recruit better players, B) have access to more and perhaps better practice time - as a result of more money being made available for their program - then wouldn't it be nice to have that opportunity extended beyond one school?

Any time you have a successfull team who know they have a decided advantage over their opponents, then there is always a risk of abusing this - by way of trying to flaunt their superiority. I have heard countless comments about trash talk, brutal play unfair tactics etc etc. It may be so and I do hope not. But for all of you pointing this out - look back to other teams and other games you have played and decide if their weren't other offenders too - but if you beat them - the BS seemed insignificant.

After reading some of your various posts about how Lindenwood was buying players I thought that I should respond. I played hockey at Lindenwood last year and it cost me more to go there than it costs me to go to the school that I attend now. I just wanted to give you the facts on Lindenwood's buying players.

Guys, just let it go. Lindenwood won the title according to the rules of CRHL. Some of those rules may be ammended in the future, but since LU violated no written rules against scholarships, I don't see how anyone can say they don't deserve to be Premier champions.

In college sports there always have been and always will be colleges who offer better programs, or offer more support for those programs, or better facilities, or larger booster clubs, etc. Lindenwood can't compete with the academic prestige that draw students to other colleges, or the student body size to draw a team from. I mean, no offense to LU, but I had never even heard of the school until last year. I wouldn't have gone there even if they offered me a full scholarship. These factors work against Lindenwood, I don't hear them crying foul about a school of 30,000 students.

Let's even say for argument sake that they did "BUY" all their talent. Well, then I commend their scouting department who found the 15 best skaters and goalies in the nation and got them all to come to LU. What's that you say? There might actually be other players outside Missouri with as much or more talent? Great, so Lindenwood worked hard with good players to form the best UNIT in Premier. Isn't that what the championship title means?

Life is sometimes unfair. The playing field is perfectly level, how much each college is willing to bring to it (scholarships, talent, roster size, school support, facilities, dedication, etc.) is what makes the teams different. Unless there is some sort of pending CRHL investigation into eligibility rules violations, can we just drop this? There's no reason LU should limit itself because the nation's other school administrations aren't willing to support their clubs the way LU's did. We all want our schools to support us like that. That they don't isn't LU's fault.

I, for one, if given the opportunity, refuse to let Lindenwood ever win another national title. How? By working harder to be better than them. Or have we all forgotten why we play in the first place? If you aren't champions, hit the gym, work on your skating & stickhandling, and become the best. If you still aren't the best, then you aren't (and don't deserve to be) the national champs.

Hi Goalie,

Excellent post. Well argued and well written, and very classy. I hope you'll become a more regular poster on this board.

I couldn't agree more. I wish more people thought like yourself. I appreciate your comments and I hope that we can meet next year in the championship game.

Lindenwoodhockey,
Thanks for the response, I was only asking because I have played against both Kahre and Edmondson in college and outside college and know how good both are. Realy, as a player on a competitive team, I was wondering if either or both would be attending nationals in Philly with the team. I know Edmondson has played most of the year and that Kahre played some but I wanted to know how good Lindenwood's second team would be for Comp. Nationals. thanks
