Okay, here's the deal...
HEY! IF YOU AREN'T OVER 50 YEARS OLD, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE GIVE THIS INFO TO SOMEONE WHO IS, EH?!?!?!
-IF-
we can get 28 players (guys and gals), all in the "50 years old and over" category, then we can get USA Hockey Inline to host a 50&O division at this coming September's nationals in Las Vegas.
1. You must be born in 1953 or earlier to qualify. no exceptions.
2. You must be willing to register with USA Hockey and pay a $75 player fee ($100, if not a current USA Hockey Inline member). I am proposing a due date of April 30th, in order to demonstrate our earnestness to USAHIL.
3. All players will register as individuals. USAHIL will designate the four teams on a geographic basis, so if you sign up with some buddies, you can all be on the same team.
4. We need 6 skaters and a goalie for each of four teams.
5. As you arrive at the Crystal Palace on Thursday morning, you receive your really cool uniform sweater, and meet your team. All four teams utilize the two rinks at 7:00 a.m. for an introductory/organizational team practice. Each team will be "coached" by a USAHIL staff member. Each team will play one round robin game on Thursday evening, and two games split morning/evening on Friday. A 1st v. 4th, 2nd v. 3rd semifinal on Saturday will precede the championship game on Sunday morning.
This tournament has been a dream of mine for a couple of years now...as an added incentive, our ability to demonstrate to USAHIL that there is legitimate participation in this age group is a major step toward the United States throwing down the gauntlet to other member IIHF nations regarding an over-50 World Championship tournament. Can you imagine having the opportunity to represent your country in this competition?!? It would be from this tournament that the players for our national team would be selected...
Please join me in this proposal to USA Hockey Inline...incidentally, this tournament, while more for the recreation-level team than is NARCh, has been the most rewarding sports experience I have ever had. I have been to it five years running, now, and would like nothing better than to play with guys in my own age group.
Please e-mail me directly at [email protected] You can also contact the USA Hockey Inline guys directly (Gary Delvechio, Dan Brennan, and Jeremy Kennedy have each listened to my harangue them about this concept), but I would like to be able to present them with a list of all 28 of us who would like to do this...
Wanna come out and play?
-Dan
