Lets put a team of players from this board for winternationels next year. I would like to play one year. I can't get people from around here to play. Let me know what you think.

Cool! Hey Rich, I'm making my plans for a trip to So. Cal in 2nd week of August. I'll be staying in Marina Del Rey for at least 3 days. I want to partake in some legendary Santa Monica area hockey. I need info on when and where is the best time to be able play along with native customs. I don't want to be tied up and beaten as an intruder.

There's only one place that counts: The beach parking lots about 1/2 mile south of the Santa Monica Pier. The natives get restless about 11 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays and play till sunset, or until they're whipped, whichever comes first. During the summer months, you can usually find a game almost every week day from about 5 p.m. till dark.
The lot closest to the water is the "A" court. They don't mind newcomers who bring their "A" game, but god forbid you should try to play there and lack skills. They'll eat you alive, at least until they get to know you, and will give not-so-subtle hints that you should try the "B" court, the adjacent lot closer inland.
The guys on the "B" court will take anyone, even me, and often it's just as competitive, but usually a lot more fun.
Go for it. I'm in Huntington Beach now, but I'll occasionally drive 38 miles north to play there.

If you need a place to play in the USAHIL Cup in September, and -with apologies- I cannot get my dreamed-for 50&O division, I've got a place for you on our Polar Bears 40&O team...love to have you join the party...
I would really consider next year's Winternat's, IF NARCh would host at least a 40&O group...My experience w/30&O and 35&O divisions is admittedly not that successful (although the P'Bears did get 35&O silver at the '99 USAHIL Cup in New Orleans). As I am now heading into the 50's, even you guys in the forties are starting to pull away from me at an alarming rate.
If you have any pull with USARS or NARCh, see what you can do...
incidentally, this has been one of the major factors that has kept me firmly entrenched in the USAHIL camp for the last seven years: USAHIL responds much more effectively to the grass-roots, recreation league foundation of the sport, and the USARS/AAU/NARCh triumvirate tends to consider only the elite, top-of-the-pyramid groups. NARCh could significantly gain stature in my estimation if they were to use their membership base to create the 40's and 50's age tournament divisions...
That's a challenge to them I would welcome a response to (I better stop now before I start sounding more like Yoda...)
At either rate, the invitation for september still stands...see you out on the blue floor.

September is far enough a way to start laying the groundwork with my wife on why its important for me to go on yet another hockey trip.
Could you send me a link or info on the dates of the Tourney.

it's always been the third weekend, Thursday through Sunday, like the 19-22, or whatever the dates are this year...too lazy to get up and look at the calendar...check the usa hockey web site also for more info as they put this year's event together...

Right after my birthday. Sounds like a good excuse. We'll talk as it gets closer.
