Ya know, I'm sitting here on a late Sunday night. We finished the winter season. My rec div team lost, my novice div team lost, my club div team won the entire enchilada. My Stubbies are working real well, specially with Dr. Scholl's inserts.

My daughter has become the top (male or female) all-'round peewee div player in the city, and she still wants to work hard to get better, and she still listens to me.

Spring season starts in ten days, lotsa time to get ready. Everybody goes out of their way to tell me how much fun they're having.

At 51 years old, I can still play this game with some moderate acumen, in fact I'm better than last year.

I really love this game...I can play fairly well this sport that all the hotshot basketball-volleyball-baseball guys my age couldn't even dream of doing.

I get to do this sixty hours a week, and I get paid...at least for 40 of 'em.

This life is incredibly good, and we are all lucky to be a part of this great inline hockey community.

I just wanted to share the random thoughts...

Hi Danny,

Great post. Keep rolling! I'm not as old as you (or as fat as Huck), but I'm getting there, and I admire your tenacity.

Off-topic, my inline hockey team is 4-1-2 with three games remaining, and we play the first-place team twice in those last three weeks. Our destiny is in our own hands. I like that.

If we beat them both times, we'll finish in first place and play the last-place team in the first game of the playoffs. If we lose a couple of games, we'll still finish no worse than second, and play the third-place team. If we really blow it, and lose all three of our final games, we'll play that same team in the playoffs, as 1st plays 4th and 2nd plays 3rd.

The only problem is that I might have some conflicts with my new ice hockey team the last three weeks of the inline season, March 3, 10, and 17. I'm hoping we get some early games on ice so I can play in both games -- the rinks are only about three miles apart. Otherwise, I'll play in the games that count in the inline league and miss a couple ice games.

Bottom line?

Hockey, hockey, hockey; fun, fun, fun /wtimages/icons/smile.gif

Nice post Danny. Your kind of attitude is one of the reasons why I love hockey so much. I know little kids who are 5 that are just learning how to play and are having a blast and guys in their 50's still enjoying the game they love. I hope once I reach your guys age and older, that I still will want to play and have a good time playing hockey. Hockey players are passionate people, thats even proven by your post, so I think I'll be alright ;-)

I can say I spend alot of time a week doing inline hockey related things. I run my leagues website, I play in 3 inline house leagues, and I spend way too much time in the driveway playing. Also I play travel and house ice hockey(only in the winter). And I am on this site alot, less time these last few day (been studying. And I wish I got paid too!

I've gotten paid, if thats what you would want to call it, slaving at the rink, making relativly no money, and the owners full heartedly knowing they'll get it back when I go to the proshop. lol

I do the same thing spend way to much time at the rink, trying to get the UNLV team going. I think the thing is we all love the sport of roller hockey that we will slave over the sport and one day all of our work will be rewarded.

All we can hope for is the hardwork and dedication that we put into the game and getting it "grounded" is one day it will be as succesful (if not more) than todays major sports.

Oh, dont remind me, a year or two ago I had the first game in a tournament at 6:00 am and the last game 12:30 am. Not to mention I worked and reffed inbetween my games throughout the day. Put it this way, a bed has never felt better in my life ;-) lol
