View Full Version : Christmas help needed on table top hockey
Now it's time to relive my youthful days. I remember I had a zillion hours of fun playing with my table top hockey game. You know, the steel rods and the players twirling and shooting and all. Well, I remember we had so much fun and even set up "league" play. My friends would sit in the basement for untold days and nights durning the winter when we were wee lil chaps and couldn't get enough of that. Now..... My question is: Which one of the new table hockey games is the best out there?? I have only looked online so far and see they are now all plastic. Here are some of the ones I found, any suggestions? "Slapshot Hockey" by IRWIN, and "Challenge Hockey by WEE PLAY. If ya'll have played these or have some other ones that look or play better, please post PRONTO! Only have a few days to decide. Make my kids day(really mine.hehe) and help me out please. thanx. j-bo

At the risk of sounding arrogant, I was incredibly talented at this game. As I remember, the ONLY person who ever beat me at this game was my older brother, David, who had both an age and height advantage.
(Theo Fleury is God.)
I have never seen ANY table hockey game come close to the game I dominated in my house in the early 1970's.... the one with "the the steel rods and the players twirling and shooting and all."
If I remember correctly, you could buy different teams. My game came with the Toronto Maple Leafs and the New York Rangers, and the Maple Leafs (my team) ALWAYS won. (Except once, and I was probably tired.)
My bias? NO plastic game can even come close. Is there ANY company will have the "plastic pucks" to come out with a game with steel rods and steel players?
"Plastic" may have been the magic word for Dustin Hoffman in "The Graduate," but this is the new Millennium. Hasn't the cycle of history made it time again for quality to matter more than expedience?
Inline Hockey Central
Let your arrogance come on out. As I believe that we both had the same game, as mine too had the leafs and rangers. Or maybe the canadiens and bruins? Also, didn't the puck drop out of the scoring tower? I remember bending my players "sticks" too, nothing like getting the right curve on the stick. My main player was GUY LAFLEUR. Hmmmm.... All I remember is always putting a whipping on whoever wanted to try and beat me. Sounds like you and me need a good "grudge" match. I will let MY ARROGANCE rain, since I would light your lamp repeatedly. Not to worry though, I am sure you could join the junior ranks and dominate them. I am hitting the stores today in search of the "ultimate" table hockey game( if there is such in these days of plastic domination) laters, j-bo

I don't know if I'd call it table top, but the best rod hockey games I've seen are at the Carrom site. The main site is carrom.com. Go to products, then sports hockey. Here is the link to the actual page. It's long, I'm not sure if it will work.

Last year when I was at the Let's Play Hockey trade show, there was a company there that was showing its table hockey games. As a former neighborhood world champion of the game, I can state with great authority :) that their game was old school. Steel rods, good surface, nice puck, regulation size, etc. However, I can't remember the name of the company that made them. If you are really interested, I would contact Let's Play Hockey (they are in Minneapolis/St. Paul somewhere)and get the name of the company from them. Too bad we don't live in the same town so we could all get together and I could kick your ass ;) Good luck! P.S. I will be going to the trade show again in January. If you send me an email, I will get the company name and address and send it to you when I return.
Okay, Finally found THE table top hockey game. It is made by STIGA (sweden) and it looks unbelievable. I also had gone to EBAY and actually found the Bobby Hull one from when I was a kid.. Auciton price?? up to about $250. I found the stiga on ebay too, bought it new for $69.99 .. If you want one, email me as I have the guys email and he has more for around $79... these look WAAAAAAAY better than the old style ones. Now, if they will hold up to the abuse it will get. Oh... and I am laughing at you concrete pond..why? cause it wouldn't even be a contest with me! laters, j-bo
