View Full Version : Facility Development
Looking for some information in relation to Facility Development:
Which schools currently have on-campus roller hockey facilities? Please include details on these facilities, such as indoor/outdoor, surface, lighting, etc.
Any schools currently planning on building a roller hockey facility?
Which roller hockey clubs have made efforts to convince their university to build a roller hockey facility? How have these efforts been accomplished and with what materials?
Thank you for your time.

About 2 years ago I approached the club sports department about building a facility on campus. They asked me to send them a proposal on the types of rink possibilities and possible rink locations. I ran into a few problems though:
1) I contacted a few companies about the costs of building either an outdoor facility (with either asphalt or sport court) or indoor facility. They wanted to know what the location was for purposes of an estimate because they needed to know the grading of the land, etc.
2) The problem was that the school wasn't very helpful about designating possible locations and they wanted an estimate before they even took that step. As you can see it became a bit of a catch-22.
I think the best thing would be to build one or two outdoor asphalt (or maybe higher quality surface) rinks similar to those at Penn State. I'm sure the Maryland club would appreciate any help you could offer (by possibly contacting the school directly)

You need to talk to your rec department on campus and team up with them. Make plans to build an indoor rink that will accomodate other sports as well. Most intramurals are always looking for new places to play as well. Build the rink using sport court and it can double as a volleyball court, basketball court, idoor soccer and other such sports. It is convincing your school that this rink is needed that gets hard.
