The Eastern Collegiate Roller Hockey Association (ECRHA) is a prestigious and extremely fun non-for-profit organization that prides itself on professionalism, reputation of our events, and our community-focused beliefs. We encompass 50-major Division I and Division II Colleges and Universities from Maine to North Carolina and have affiliation to the CRHL and it's preferred partners such as USA Hockey Inline, and NARCh. Eventually we hope to be in the eye of the NCAA.
The ECRHA is completely self sufficient with no corporate sponsors or private funding, and not a huge amount of University support (although we are making great strides in these areas). We are currently reviewing sponsorships and partners for the 2002-2003 season. The ECRHA is not-for-profit and run completely by volunteers, most of whom are student roller hockey players themselves. What we have accomplished and built on our own so far is an amazing success story in itself. We are also very community focused and believe completely that giving to your community is the key to success and support. Our journey has been a tough one, but we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Your children can now play roller hockey in college.
The ECRHA has been building a program for the past 5 years to organize and promote the growth, acceptance, and programming of roller hockey in college; a struggling sport on its own, sadly still treated like 'poor man's ice hockey', or 'ice hockey on wheels'. The ECRHA and CRHL are integral organizations in the movement to get colleges to recognize the sport and offer this worthwhile opportunity to their students, with intramurals, clubs, scholarships, and ultimately and possibly becoming an NCAA sanction. Currently the teams are operated under the guidelines of Club Sports within their schools. While some of the colleges do, sadly a majority of them do not recognize, aid, or support their college roller hockey team.
Brian Lutwick Benefit
This weekend, Skate Safe is hosting a benefit fundraiser in honor of Brian Lutwick of Merrick Long Island. Brian, an 18-year-old freshman and avid hockey player was attending Syracuse University and also worked at Skate Safe. After a sudden situation, prayers were answered as Brian received a new heart last week. Brian's father has told me that prognosis is good and doctors think Brian might be back on the surface in 6 months! Brian - You definitely have the heart of a champ! ALL PROCEEDS from this event are being donated. Skate Safe is donating all the rink time and concession sales as well. Please attend and consider making a donation. Also, if you are not an organ donor, please consider and notify a family member or DMV of your intentions. TEAM ECRHA, the ECRHA Selects, Suffolk Community College and SUNY Farmingdale, will all be participating in the competition this weekend. Best of luck to you guys! Breitel and Rabatin will be coaching the ECRHA Teams.
The ECRHA is a proud Member Organization of CRHL and stands behind CRHL as reorganization continues to bring the best programs current and further develop member and university relations. CRHL will start the season off right with the release of a new website shortly. CRHL Nationals will be hosted this year by the ECRHA (April 2003).
ECRHA is a proud member of the CRHL and USA Hockey Inline. For the best roller hockey site on the Internet, visitwww.inlinehockeycentral.com.
